So many threads in our family tapestry; some tightly woven and hard to unravel, some broken and hanging with little hope of finding their rightful end.

Our story begins in pre-colonial America, England, Scotland, Ireland and France. In the 1600-1700s, it branches into both the northern and southern colonies; specifically, Rhode Island, New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia and North Carolina. Then it spreads to West Virginia, Ohio, Tennessee and Illinois; from there to Utah, Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico. By the mid-20th century, we had reached the western end of the continent: California, Oregon, and Alaska.

Some of the names we are researching:

MY MOTHER'S FAMILY Adkins, Richmond, Dequasie, Park, Miller, Stewart, Wallace, Robb, Meek, Bradner, Head, Hubbard, Burdick, Allen, Maxon, Alexander, Clark

MY FATHER'S FAMILY Pinkerton, Beaty, Drake, Diller, Files, Foster

MY HUSBAND'S FAMILY David's Grandfather Max Guthert was a German sailor who jumped ship on the eastern seaboard, traveled to Ohio and married Bertha Schmidt. The new couple and the entire(?) Ohio Schmidt family emigrated to Oregon ca. 1910, where they settled in Tillamook County until the late 1920s or early 30s. Most of the family then moved to California, but have at times returned to Oregon. The only other Guthert we have ever found, outside of known family members, is a Christine Guthert ca 1800s in the midwest. We have a postcard from a Guthert uncle in Nazi Germany. G-U-T-H-E-R-T is a "true" spelling, not a variant of Gunther or similar spellings, according to family tradition and some name research.--David's mother was Margaret Amanda Hall, born in Bangor, Maine, of English and "Persian" heritage. Her family apparently moved to California, where she married Harold Guthert about 1935.

OTHER FAMILY CONNECTIONS Grant, Peratrovich, Roberts, Brososky, Estes
