3. THOMAS C.² SMITH (JOHN (SCHMIDT)¹) was born October 14, 1790 in Allegheny Co., Penn, and died June 02, 1880 in Lanesville, Indiana. He married CATHERINE WIGGINS June 06, 1816 in Indiana Territory Floyd Co. Indiana. She was born Abt. 1800 in Pennsylvania, and died February 1893 in Harrison County, Indiana.

Notes for THOMAS C. SMITH:
Thomas Smith fought the War of 1812 in the 1st Regt. PA Militia under Col. Ferree and Capt. J. Brown. After the war he moved with his parents to indiana and there he married Catherine Wiggins who was born In Pennsylvania.
From his father's estate, Thomas bought land lying along Smith Creek Road and running north (along Highway US11) to Gunn Road.
Thomas settled in Franklin Twp, Harrison County, Indiana. His land lay along the main road (now US460) on the north side and about 1 mile east of Lanesville. He deeded part of his land for a cemetery, now known as Protestant Cemetery in Lanesville. His Will left the farm to Catharine "until her death".
