Researching HAAS,BAUER, BETZ and KOETTER families. My grandfather, Hermann HAAS, immigrated from Baden, Germany about 1900. He was approximately 25 years old and he was an Evangelical minister. Hermann settled in Cincinnati, Ohio. He married Mina BETZ, daughter of William and Caroline BETZ. Hermann became ill and was advised by physicians to move to the Southwest. He and Mina and their first son, Theophil, moved to Comfort, TX about 1910. Hermann's health improved and they left Texas and went to Manitowoc, WI about 1915. By now they had two more sons, William and Virgil. My father, Herman Carl HAAS, was born in 1917 in Manitowoc, WI.
Hermann, the immigrant, became ill once again in Manitowoc. Physicians advised him to return to Texas. He began that trip with his family but only made it as far as Cincinnati where he succumbed. At the time my father, Herman, was only two years old. Mina remained with her sons back in Cincinnati where the family lived in an orphanage where Mina was Caretaker. When her mother, Caroline, died a few years later, Mina and her sons moved in with her father. William Betz was a blacksmith. He made hog hooks for a meat packing company in Cincinnati. The boys grew up in Cincinnati. My father met Edna Louise BAUER, daughter of Theodor BAUER and Emma KOETTER. My mother, who always went by Louise, had two brothers, Neil and Edward(Eps)BAUER.
The immigrant, Hermann, left five brothers and a sister in Baden. I still have many German relatives, one of whom I know well. This relative, Helmut HAAS, has traced the line back to the marriage of Anton HAAS and Lucia ARZEN on June 20, 1730 in the vicinity of Harten (Hartheim) Germany.
I would be more than delighted to exchange information with anyone desiring to contact me.
