* 2210 E. Lehigh Avenue: The Haas Family of Philadelphia*

Updated March 9, 2003

This website is dedicated to genealogical research on the Haas family of Philadelphia, PA.

The family tree, as currently documented, can be briefly summarizes as follows:

My Grandmother, Genevieve Brennan Haas'(1892-1969), genealogy:

John Clarke, an Irish immigrant came to the United States around 1840, and settled in Cumberland in Western Maryland. Jane Ann Clarke (1857 - 1943), according to what has been passed down verbally, is the granddaughter of John Clarke (having been born to John's son Philip). Genevieve Brennan Haas (1892-1969)is the daughter of Jane Clarke and John Francis Brennan.

My Grandfather, John Edward Haas' (1878-1965), genealogy:

John Haas Sr. came to America from Wurttemburg Germany around 1881. John brought with him his wife, Elizabeth Ludy Haas, and his two children, John Edward and Hanna G. Haas. The family lived briefly in Baltimore, where John Edward was baptized on March 30, 1890 at the Church of the XIV Holy Martyrs.

John was introduced to his future wife (Genevieve Brennan) by a couple named Zane. Mr. Zane worked with John at a shoe factory in Philadelphia.

When he married Genevieve, John was 32 and Genevieve was 18.

The house where John and Genevieve lived and raised their children was at 2210 E. Lehigh Ave, Philadelphia. Their original house was a couple of blocks away (Tucker Street), but they moved when the parish (St. Anne's) needed the lot their house was on to expand the church and school.

  • Jane Ann Clarke (30 KB)
Jane Anne Clarke is my great-grandmother. I have many unanswered questions about how Jane is actually related to the Clarke family of Cumberland, and it is her story that is the inspiration for much of my genealogical research.
  • Jane Clarke and John Brennan (40 KB)
This is a picture of Jane Clarke and her husband John F. Brennan. John was a police officer in Philadelphia, and may be wearing his uniform in this picture.
