In 1839 the Hachtel family emigrated from Stilzendorf, Bavaria, Germany to Baltimore, Maryland. Leonhard Michael Hachtel his wife Eva margaret and their eight children arrived in the port of Baltimore in October of that year Leonhard was 55 years old and a Master Shoemaker by trade. He and his descendants would spend the better part of the next 150 years in the city of Baltimore The eight children who arrived with the family were Anna Margarethe, Christian, Johann Leonhard, Johann George, Johann Michael, Johann Carl, Anna Barbara and Anna Christina. The history of the ancestors of Leonhard Hachtel can be traced back to the year 1548 in the Hohenloher Region of Wuerttemberg in south central Germany, in and around the town of Blaufelden. The Hachtel name is known as early as 1290. In the middle and latter part of the 1800's other Hachtels' immigrated to the U.S. and settled in New York, New Jersey, Michigan, Ohio, Wisconsin, Illinois, Texas, Georgia and Ontario, Canada. A common link has not yet been found between thes other U. S. families. |
