| Family histories have always been fascinating to me. When I was a child, there was some genealogy work done on the Donley side of my family, and I was hooked! It has been lots of fun filling in the blanks and adding to our family tree. But like anyone who dabbles in this hobby....I do have some brick walls. I would appreciate any information on the following families: 1. Cornelius Wilson was born about 1823 in Kentucky, and he married Margarett "Jane" Boyd (born Oct. 1823 in Ohio) on July 8, 1841 in McLean County, Illinois. Family tradition has it that their oldest children were born in Ohio, but the evidence doesn't support that. Cornelius died in 1856 at the age of 33 in Tazewell County, Illinois. I'd really like to figure out who his parents and family were, and where in Kentucky they came from. Cornelius and Jane's children were: Mary E., b. 1845; Charles Alexander, b. 1848 (my ancestor); Jane, b. abt. 1850 (died before 1860); Caroline, b. 1851; William E., b. abt. 1853; Emma A., b. 1853 (twin of William); and Franklin, b. abt. 1854. 2. My mother's maternal great grandfather was John Wrede, born about 1844 in Germany. In 1875 he married my g-g-grandmother, Adeline Deaton in St. Louis. According to the St. Louis death register he died in August of 1888 of heat exhaustion, and was buried in the Old Bethlehem Cemetery. I have been unsuccessful in finding any more information about John Wrede's family, and am very interested in talking with anyone who knows anything about his parents or siblings....or even when he might have immigrated to the U.S. 3. Levi Dement married Sarah Elizabeth Ditch on Sept. 2, 1828 in Monroe County, Illinois. I know of the following children: Austin (my ancestor), b. abt. 1829; Lewis, b. abt. 1834; Norman, b. abt. 1839; & Zopher, b. abt. 1841. Sarah appears to have married two more times (in 1846 and 1849), but I don't have any idea when or where Levi Dement died. Any more details about this couple or their children would be welcome. Here is a list of the more prominent surnames I'm researching: Ackmann, Bennett, Buescher, Cate, Donley, Donnelly, Dower, Dunn, Eifert, Hackmann, Jones, Keller, Maynard, Manard, Martin, McGinley, Mullen, Neville, Pauley, White, Wilson, Wrede. I hope that in reading through my family trees you'll find some connections. I've benefitted so much from the research of others, I only hope I can benefit someone else as well! |
