Obituary of Ellen Thurman
Graveside services for Ellen THURMAN, 91, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 18, 1999 at the Alva Municipal Cemetery.Wharton Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Ellen, daughter of Susanna [MATE] and Valentine Hada, was born northwest of Alva on June 18, 1907.She passed away at the Stillwater Medical Center on March 15, 1999.
She attended the Greenleaf Rural Grade School, Northwest High School and Northwestern State Teachers College where she received her teaching certificate.She taught for 10 years in Woods County Rural Grade Schools.
Miss Hada was married to Louie H. Thurman on July 24, 1933 at Cherokee.To their marriage two children, Mary Lou and Wes were born.Mr. Thurman died March 7, 1980.
Following their marriage they farmed and ranched 15 miles northwest of Alva.At the age of 13 years she was baptized by Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, A.A.R.P. and Retired teachers of Payne County.
Mrs. Thurman was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Ida Hada, an infant, Julia, an infant brother, Samual, and four brothers, Bert, John, Valentine Jr. and Paul.
Ellen is survived by her daughter, Mary Lou and her husband, David Bryan, of Ponca City; a son, Charles Wesley and his wife, Sharon Thurman of Perkins; four grandchildren and their spouses, Stacy (Thurman) and Rudy Lacy of Stillwater, Jonnell Thurman of Oklahoma City, Ken and Beth Bryan of Okalhoma City, Katie Bryan of Conway, Ark., and a great-graddaughter, Tylan Jae Lacy of Stillwater; a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Contributions may be made in her memory to the Judith Karman Hospice of Stillwater.
The casket will not be opened at any time.
