George Washington Hoffman (bef 1780-1816), son of the immigrant George Hoffman, owned and operated the EAGLE Tavern from 1803 until 1816. This tavern was built in 1795 and is still in operation as a restaurant and lounge. The EAGLE Tavern is located on Route 100 about 2 miles north of the Downingtown exit of the Pennsylvania Turnpike. George married Rebecca Stiteler, daughter of Johan Peter Stiteler and their three children were born near the tavern. Later, Isaac E. Stiteler (1807-1854), a nephew of Rebecca, owned/operated the tavern in 1832/1833.
