Present at British surrender at Yorktown, South Carolina 1796 Moved to Burke County Georgia, 1801 Moved to Taylor's Creek, Liberty County, Georgia Robert was commisioned Justice of the Peace of the 17th. District of Liberty County on July 9, 1802 and served until 1811. He was commisioned on September 15. 1819 and served until 1824. He became Tax Collector in 1827 and served until his death. His son, Robert, Jr., filled the unexpired term. Robert was granted lot # 229 in the 2nd, District of the 1st. Section in Lee County for his Revolutionary War service in the Georgia Land Lottery of 1827. After his death his wife, Ann Lee Hendry was granted lot # 70 in the 9th. District of the 4th. section in Cherokee ( now Walker County) County as a widow of a Revolutionary Soldier. The Hendry Plantation is now part of the U.S. Army Fort Stewart. The family was buried at Hendry's cemetery which is located about 3 miles northwest of Taylor's Creek Methodist Cemetery. The tombstones of Robert. 1752-1830, his wife Ann Lee, 1753-1834, daughter Elizabeth Hendry Floyd, 1793-1879, son Robert, Jr., 1788-1847, his wife Nancy Daniel, 1798-1847 and their children, Elizabeth Jane, d. 1831, James Tillman Purifoy, d. 1830, William Hill, 1828-1849, and Mary Emeline, d. 1852, were moved to the Methodist Cemetery at Taylor's Creek. Other Hendry's are buried here as well. Taylor's Creek Methodist Church was establised in 1807 by the Rev. Angus McDonald with 7 members, Including James Darcy, Mrs. James Darcy and Robert Hendry. A village soon grew up around the church and was for many years a trading center for the surrounding area. In the cemetery adjoining the site of the church are the graves of the families Bird, Daniels, Martin, Hendry and others who were part of the Taylor's Creek community and whose names have been prominent in the history of Georgia. The Taylor's Creek Methodist Church edifice built here in 1841 was in use for 101 years, until 1942 when the site wastaken over by the United States Goverment to become a part of the Ft. Stewart area. Notes for ANN LEE: One Source says that Ann Lee was the Sister of LightHorse Harry Lee, Robert E. Lee's Father. May not be accurate since she may have been born in North Carolina, the daughter of a Thomas Lee of Onslow County. There may be some connection since the Lee's did split into Virginia and North Carolina at some point according to sources. Ann was a charter member of the Taylor's Creek Methodist Episcopal Church Ann Lee Hendry's will made on February 3, 1834 and probated on May 14. 1835: State of Georgia, Liberty County - In the name of God, Amen. I, Ann Hendry, of the State of Georgia aforesaid, being very sick and weak of body but of perfect and sound mind and memory, Do make and ordain the following as my last will and testament. "1st.
