 Notes for JOHN HENDRY:
The Isle of Arran is located at the entrance to the Firth of Clyde and is 14 miles from the mainland and is the southernmost island of the Inner Hebrides. The Island name came from a contraction of the Gaelic "arr" (stag) and "innis".

 2.  ROBERT HENDRY2 R.S. (JOHN1 HENDRY) was born March 17, 1751/52 in Island of Arran, Scotland, and died August 31, 1830 in Hinesville (Taylor's Creek) Georgia.  He married ANN LEE February 1778 in Hanover County, North Carolina, daughter of ANN LEE.

 Notes for ROBERT HENDRY R.S.:
One Source also says that Robert was banished from Scotland by the British royalty as a traitor to the British rule. 

1770 Immigrated to New Hanover County, North Carolina. Black River Settlement is probably located around Wilmington, North Carolina 

1790 1st US Census, Page 13 living in Edenton District, Bertie County, North Carolina.

Served under LightHorse Harry Lee (Father of Robert E. Lee), present at Yorktown. Present at British surrender at Yorktown, South Carolina 

1796 Moved to Burke County Georgia, 1801 Moved to Taylor's Creek, Liberty County, Georgia 

Robert was commisioned Justice of the Peace of the 17th. District of Liberty County on July 9, 1802 and served until 1811. He was commisioned on September 15. 1819 and served until 1824. 

He became Tax Collector in 1827 and served until his death. His son, Robert, Jr., filled the unexpired term. 

Robert was granted lot # 229 in the 2nd, District of the 1st. Section in Lee County for his Revolutionary War service in the Georgia Land Lottery of 1827. After his death his wife, Ann Lee Hendry was granted lot # 70 in the 9th. District of the 4th. section in Cherokee ( now Walker County) County as a widow of a Revolutionary Soldier. 

The Hendry Plantation is now part of the U.S. Army Fort Stewart. The family was buried at Hendry's cemetery which is located about 3 miles northwest of Taylor's Creek Methodist Cemetery. The tombstones of Robert. 1752-1830, his wife Ann Lee, 1753-1834, daughter Elizabeth Hendry Floyd, 1793-1879, son Robert, Jr., 1788-1847, his wife Nancy Daniel, 1798-1847 and their children, Elizabeth Jane, d. 1831, James Tillman Purifoy, d. 1830, William Hill, 1828-1849, and Mary Emeline, d. 1852, were moved to the Methodist Cemetery at Taylor's Creek. Other Hendry's are buried here as well. 

Taylor's Creek Methodist Church was establised in 1807 by the Rev. Angus McDonald with 7 members, Including James Darcy, Mrs. James Darcy and Robert Hendry. A village soon grew up around the church and was for many years a trading center for the surrounding area. In the cemetery adjoining the site of the church are the graves of the families Bird, Daniels, Martin, Hendry and others who were part of the Taylor's Creek community and whose names have been prominent in the history of Georgia. The Taylor's Creek Methodist Church edifice built here in 1841 was in use for 101 years, until 1942 when
the site wastaken over by the United States Goverment to become a part of the Ft. Stewart area. 

 Notes for ANN LEE:
One Source says that Ann Lee was the Sister of LightHorse Harry Lee, Robert E. Lee's Father. May not be accurate since she
may have been born in North Carolina, the daughter of a Thomas Lee of Onslow County. There may be some connection since
the Lee's did split into Virginia and North Carolina at some point according to sources. 

Ann was a charter member of the Taylor's Creek Methodist Episcopal Church 

Ann Lee Hendry's will made on February 3, 1834 and probated on May 14. 1835: 

State of Georgia, Liberty County - In the name of God, Amen. I, Ann Hendry, of the State of Georgia aforesaid, being very sick and weak of body but of perfect and sound mind and memory, Do make and ordain the following as my last will and testament. 

"1st. I give and bequeath unto ny daughters, Elizabeth and Mary, the lot of land drawn by me in the late Land Lottery in the County of Cherokee, together with all the personal property of which I may be siezed in ny owm right at my decision of every kind whatsoever, to be shared by them equally, to them and their heirs forever." 

"2nd. It is my will that the fractional lot lately drawn to my name should be sold by my executor and divided equally among my children which are now living, and the children of those which are dead, each family of orphans of my decesdant children to have a part equal to my children which are living." 

" And lastly, I appoint my Son, Robert Hendry, executor of this my last will and testament."

 3.  JOHN3 HENDRY (ROBERT HENDRY2 R.S., JOHN1 HENDRY) was born December 01, 1778 in New Hanover County, North Carolina, and died December 1858 in Hamilton County, Florida.  He married CATHERINE "KATIE" MCFAIL December 13, 1808 in Liberty County, Georgia, daughter of JAMES MCFAIL and JUDITH ?.

 Notes for JOHN HENDRY:
A soldier in the War of 1812. 

His first home place was 200 acres of lot 515, 12th district, purcchased 6/16/1826 from Rev. Melus Thigpen. SOld same 8/22/1842 to Abraham Hargraves of Ware County for $1785.00. 

Moved to Hamilton County, Florida about 1855. Settled near Jennings.  Buried in the Hendry family Cemetery near Jennings.

 5.  WILLIAM3 HENDRY (ROBERT HENDRY2 R.S., JOHN1 HENDRY) was born February 12, 1783 in New Hanover County, North Carolina, and died June 06, 1840 in Brook County, Georgia.  He married NANCY MCFAIL December 07, 1807, daughter of JAMES R.S. and JUDITH.

 Notes for WILLIAM HENDRY:
Commissioned 8/28/1807 as Ensign of the Militia in the 17th. district of Liberty County and particapted in the War of 1812, He was Justice of the Peace 1825 to 1826. 

Moved to Lowndes County, now Brooks County, Georgia in 1827. He loacted about midway between the present towns of Pavo and Quitman, Georgia. He in time had a large plantation. 

William, his wife and a son died in June of 1840 from Typhoid Fever. 

A devout Methodist, was one of the leaders and a trustee in establishing a campground in 1828 which became Mt. Zion. 

William was named by legislative act 12/23/1835 as one of five commissioners to select and lay out a new county seat for Lowndes County,

 9.  ROBERT MCFAIL4 HENDRY (WILLIAM3, ROBERT HENDRY2 R.S., JOHN1 HENDRY) was born February 29, 1816 in Liberty, Georgia, and died August 30, 1888 in Taylor County, Florida.  He married MARTHA ANN CARLTON December 16, 1838 in Thomas County, Georgia, daughter of JOHN CARLTON and NANCY ALDERMAN.

 Notes for ROBERT MCFAIL HENDRY:
A Mason, Robert was a licensed minister in the Methodist Episcopal Church. On 12/8/1867 he was ordained as an Elder by Bishop George F. Pierce. The Methodist Church of Shady Grove ( R.M.Hendry) was built as a memorial to him. 

Robert and Martha Ann are buried in the Hendry Cemetary located several hundred yards north of Shady Grove on Highway 221 North 12 miles north of Perry. 

1852 Purchased the John Carlton plantation, including a sawmill and gristmill. Sold the plantation and purchased a farm in Taylor County
