OSEPH ADRIAENSE HEGEMAN:
Nettie Weaver says he died in about 1725 in Flatbush, LI, NY. Remsen Family sources( p.341) list him as dying in Somerset Co., NJ.
      In Flatbush, he owned a farm of 40 1/2 Morgens, about 80 acres. He was a member of the Flatbush DRC in 1677. He was an Elder in 1690. He took the oath of Allegiance in Flatbush in 1687 and was appointed Cornet of Horse in 1689. In 1690, he opposed the Leislerian faction and was listed on the census of 1698. (source, Nettie Weaver)

      In 1710 with others, he bought the Harlingen tract in Somerset Co., NJ.

Stark's History of Somerset Co. says that Denuyse Hageman was a soldier in the French and Indian War and was taken prisoner and sent to Quebec and thence to France.

On Aug. 15,1728 Jacobes Hegeman and Dirck van Veghten made an inventory of the estate of Peter van Este of Rariton, Somerset Co. Listed in the NJ Colonial Documents, Calander of Wills for 1727-8 Feb 10. van Este, Peter, yeoman. A bequest was made to build a Dutch church on Rariton.The will was proved April 12, 1728. Jacobes valued the estate 140 acres and a grist mill at L260, personal property at L2193.1.10 including two negro children at L25.
      This inventory suggests that Dirck was Jacobus brother-in-law, probably a brother of his wife Jannetje.
