Comments from the Conna Community Council web site: ( connacommunitycouncil.ie) The Hagarty Reunion has taken place, what a delightful time we had. The Hagarty family and all of the Canadians and Americans were very pleased with the reception they received from the people of this area. It was for many of them an emotional experience to visit the house where their forebears left and closed the door finally in 1852. Conna people can be proud of the warm welcoming reception which they extended graciously to the visitors. The visitors raised our spirits, they were very friendly people, pleasant and courteous in every way, they were like our own, sure they are our own seperated only by a little gap in time. In a most generous gesture they contributed € 1,000 towards the upkeep of the hall. The great effort made by Jim Hagarty to bring the families together was indeed rewarded. Jim is the author of a superb and very readable book on the family history, it is going to be available from this website soon. To all who assisted in running the event, we wish to thank them most sincerely. Jim Hagarty and a relation were conversing in the village late one night, they were entertained by two locals who insisted on exchanging fists with each other until they were both too tired to continue, some things never change.
