* Larry Hagen - Dixon, IL / Gilbert, Toms, Greenawalt, Miller*

Updated February 15, 2011

I started this after getting elected into being President of the Gilbert-Hardnock Family Reunion in Aug 2004. Since starting to research some family history I've found distant cousins Diana Gonzales and Sheila Boyer who have helped me out a lot. Thanks to Sheila for the local Toms family connection in right here in this immediate area of Lee and Ogle Counties in Illinois.

Right now the real challenge is getting some data on John Gilbert, born around 1809 in either PA or MD. He married Susan Toms, daughter of Abraham and Hannah. They had Daniel in 1836 and Abraham in 1840. Both boys moved to Ogle County, IL and John and Susan moved there about 1864. Abraham moved to Kansas about 1864 and made several trips back to Illinois. About 1880 he took John back with him to Kansas where John died 7-22-1885 in Emporia, KS. Susan Toms Gilbert stayed in IL with Daniel and passed away in Ogle Co, IL on Jan 31, 1885.

Daniel and his wife Elizabeth went back to live with John and Susan in Washington Co, MD for a year because of Elizabeth's health. While there, Elizabeth gave birth to their first child, John H. Gilbert on Mar 19, 1856. Therefor, John and Susan Toms Gilbert were living in Washington Co, MD at that time.

If anyone can help with this search for information on John Gilbert who married Susan Toms it would be greatly appreciated.
