The Ruther/Eisele/Eldridge/Imlay Family of Clarksburg, NJ

Updated February 12, 2007

This family tree research project was started in January 2007.
As a result, some of the information may be incomplete and inaccurate. It certainly is a work in progress.

I am just beginning to research my father's German roots: Ruther, Eisele, Hundredmark, Graper, and Axman. The Ruther roots extend to Clarksburg, NJ from Oswego, NY and before that Roselle and Elizabeth, NJ.
My father was George Joseph Ruther of Clarksburg, NJ. His family lived in Clarksburg from the mid 1930's to the 1970's.
His father was Joseph Christian Ruther and his mother was Margaretha Irena Eisele.
My fatherís grandparents: Jacob Ruther and Catherina Hundredmark/Ohler/Ruther/Ulrich were born in Germany.
My grandmother Margaretha ís parents were George Joseph Eisele and Margaretha Graper. Both were born in the United States: George in NY, Margaretha in Jersey City, NJ.

My mother is Josie C. Bennett Ruther Burns of Clarksburg, NJ.
Her father was Ward Bennett. The Bennett family lived in the Siloam/Smithburg area of Freehold Township as well as Clarksburg, NJ. The surnames of Anderson, Thompson, and Applegate are part of the Bennett family trees.

Her mother was Myrtle Eldridge Bennett Orton.
The Eldridge/Imlay family has lived in the Clarksburg/ Imlaystown/Allentown area for well over 150 years. Myrtleís mother was Josie Melvina Imlay; her father was Irving Eldridge. The surnames of Lykes and Parker are part of their family trees. Their lives were mostly lived in the following towns of central New Jersey. Allentown, Imlaystown, and Clarksburg
