I am researching James and Jemimah (Kelly) Black of Butler County, PA. I'm not sure which James Black married Jemimah since there are several possibilties in the 1870 Census. He died before 1880 since Jemimah Black is listed as widowed in the 1880 Census. She is living with her mother, Martha Kelly, and Jemimah's two sons, William P. Black, (my great-grandfather) born about 1878 and Sam Black, born about 1880. Family tradition says that Jemimah died about 1882 when William Plummer Black was about four years old. The children were then raised by family members. According to the Black Family Bible, William Plummer had one brother, Arthur, and two sisters, Ida and Sadie. These same siblings are listed as pre-deceasing him in his obituary. Sam is not listed in the Bible or the obituary. This causes me to speculate whether Sam is, in fact, Sadie and was enumerated as a male in error. If this is familiar to anyone I would greatly appreciate any leads as to which James Black married Jemimah Kelly. I am also willing to share information.
