I am researching the JOSHUA GOWER family. Any information on who his parents might have been, or where they came from would be appreciated. Joshua was born circa 1750 and the only information I have on his birth says in Jamestown, VA., according to a record submitted to DAR in 1907. He then moved to Gloucester, MA, where he married Elizabeth Witham on August 26, 1771. They then moved to New Gloucester, ME. I am also looking for information and have some information on the following surnames: Witham, McIntire, Ricker, Stevens, Porath, Gallagher, Schmitt, Coleman, HALVERSON, Hemmingson, Nuteson, Gravesdahl, Johnson, Ingelin, Halvarsdtr, Haktorsdtr, Halvarsson, Torreson, Coleman, Secore.
I am also looking for information on the BACKUS family that emmigrated from Norway in the mid to late 1800's. The sons changed their names to several different last names such as Halverson, Kettleson, Olson, Hansen, Helmer, Pete and more.
