Notes for Michael Schauer:
Michael, a Catholic, married Anna Magdelena Schawerin, a Protestant, about 1698 in Wurttemberg, Germany. They were later forced to emigrate to England in 1709 because of war and religious persecution. They lived in a tent city in London until Queen Anne, a devout Protestant, felt England was overburdened with Germans, and decided to return all Catholics to Germany. At that point, Michale Schauer converted to Lutheranism. Later that year, arrangements were made for Michale and several thousand other Palatine refugees to leave London for the colonies.
On Christmas Day in 1709, 4000 Germans embarked on ships for New York, but were detained on board the vessels until Easter 1710, awaiting convoys to protect them against the French men-of-war. Approximately 1700 died before arrival in New York, including Michael Schauer.
Anna settled in the Hudson Valley of New York and eventually remarried.

Michael Schauer(1670) was a Bavarian Catholic and a lawyer. After the 30 Years War, he migrated to the war-devasted town of Massenbach in Wurttemburg. There he met and married a Protestant woman, Anna Magdalena Schawerin, in 1698. When Queen Anne invited Germans to work at her plantation in the Hudson Valley of New York, Michael and Magdalena accepted. They and their 4 children, Michael, Adam and 2 daughters set out for Rotterdam in 1709. From there, Queen Anne transported them and the other Germans to London where various tent cities were set up for them. When Queen Anne found her offer over-subscribed, she decided to send the Catholics back to Germany. That is when Michael converted to Lutheranism while living in the tent city of Savoy. They were then loaded on to boats which set sail for America in the spring of 1710. Michael Sr. died during the voyage.

Mention of this family is found in the various works documenting the "1709er". Livingston Plantation was where the Hudson River cuts through the Catskill Mountains. It was established to make tar for the English navy but the pine trees of the Catskill were not the right type for making tar and the venture was a failure. Livingston Manor spanned the river, being divided into East Camp and West Camp. When it was disbanded people settled throughout that area, with many moving to Schoharie Valley.

It is thought the Shauers lived on the east side of the river -- at lest Adam and Magdalena did. Michael Jr. lived at Taarbos (Tar Bush) (not sure where located). In New York, Magdalena married twice again.
