Source 1 states: Thomas Norris, Sr. came to America sometime between 1619-1631. Supposedly he was running away from home. He is to have landed in Virginia. He got married and moved to St. Mary's, Maryland and later lived in Talbot Co., MD at "Norrisderry" on the Chester River.

From source 2: Thomas arrived in the province of Virginia in 1630--1, and became a follower of William Claibourne in his trading ventures. (#3 says the same)
"It is historically well known that the earliest settlers in what was later to become the Province of Maryland, were the members of the trading posts established by Capt. Wm. Claibourne on what was called "Kent Island", which was most of the upper Easter shore in 1627. By 1633 this was quite a sizeable colony, all being Church of Eng. followers and from the Province of VA."
"Thomas Norris was married during the year of 1637 to Ann, daughter of Thomas Hynson of Nansemond Co., VA and Kent Island, MD and he transported her to St. Mary's Co., MD during that year. "
"It appears that after his marriage, Thomas settled and became a planter and was associated with his brother-in-law, Daniel Glover, in St. Mary's Co. and was possibly associated with his father-in-law in Nansemond Co., VA. In 1643 Thomas made a trip to Nansemond Co. to the home of his father-in-law, and was reported to receiving headrights. In 1647 he made another trip to 'Nansemun' Co., and was reported by L. Peeters, who secured headrights. It can be learned by following many of these caused that some of the supposed immigrants in both VA and MD were really persons engaged in the business of transporting people from colony to colony and claimed land for bringing them into the province."
Daniel Glover married Ann's sister.

From source 5: In 1673 he got a land grant of 200 acres "Norrisderry" on the Chester River.

From "Desc. of Geoffrey le Norreys: www.familytreemaker.com/users/n/o/r/Roy-J-Hamilton/GENE1-0019.html" an update of #5:

"Thomas Norris was born about 1608 in Congham, County Norfolk, England. He ran away from home as a boy of eleven years of age and went to sea. In those days, he probably started out as a cabin boy. As he grew older, Thomas became a sailor. He followed the sea for many years. He landed in Nansemond County, Virginia colony, about 1630 or 1631 and chose to remain in America. Descended from an old family of County Norfolk, England. He was the first member of the family to settle in the American colonies. He emigrated to St. Mary's County, MD colony, about 1634. He was associated with the trading adventurer, William Claiborne. In 1637, Thomas married Ann Hynson, the daughter of Thomas Hynson, Esquire, of Nansemond Co., VA colony, and Kent Co., MD colony.
After the marriage, Thomas became a planter and was associated with his brother-in-law, Daniel Glover, who had married Ann's sister. Thomas and Daniel were transported to Talbot County, MD colony, by John Morgan. In 1665, the two planters bought four hundred acres of land in Talbot County. Thomas Norris had a land grant of two hundred acres called "Norrisderry" on the Chester River. He died just prior to November, 1675, in the midst of another property transaction. It was completed by his son, Thomas, Jr."
