He married SARAH RYCKMAN October 18, 1801 in Albany, NY, daughter of GERRIT RYKMAN and ELIZABETH VAN BUREN. She was born December 15, 1784 in Albany, NY, and died October 1, 1823 in Albany, NY.

Birth rec: 1778 Aug 8 Gerrit of Yzac Hoogkerk & Rachel V Santen wit: Ryckert V Santen & Saartje Hilton.

#4 after the death of his first wife, he married Mrs. Barbara Tell on Sept 9, 1829. They were married at the Second Dutch Reformed Church of Albany. Moved the family to Coxsackie, Greene Co., NY during the 1820's. During the 1840's he left his wife and moved to Schaghticoke, Rensselaer Co., NY. "Between June 1850 and Sept. 1854, Gerrit Hooghkirk traveld west to Michigan. It is believed that he was living with his son-in-law and daughter, Thomas and Rebecca (Hooghkirk) Shaftoe, 12 miles from Detroit. On Sept. 15, 1854 'Garret Hoogkerk' died in Oakland Co., MI. He was buried next to the Shaftoe lot at the Pioneer Cemetery, Southfield Township, Oakland Co., MI. Gerrit's gravestone correctly records the date of his birth as Aug. 8, 1778. "
