Article from Jerseyite News, 41st Volume, No 33, dated April 8, 1879

"Last Wednesday afternoon, a few minutes before 4 o'clock, a terrible explosion took place in Frenchtown. The boiler in the large saw-mill belonging to Hiram Deats, and occupied by Charles White and Jacob White, exploded, sending fragments of the building for several hundred yards. Robert R. Swick, and honest, sober, hard working man aged 55 yhears, was instantly killed. Mr. Swick was the engineer, and has worked at the business for more than twenty years. He leaves a wife and five children.
Henry Sigafoos was loading lumber a short distance from the mill, in company with Charles White; they had taken the four horses from the wagon, and the two engaged in booming the load at the time of the explosion.
