"I, Henley Eversole, resident of Newman, Illinois, born July31, 1863; married Orpha Olive Wagner, March 26, 1895; hereby apply for membership in The Society of the Sons and Daughters of the Pilgrims by right of descent from Samuel Jordan, sailed form England in Sea Venture, wrecked off coast Bermuda, August 1608, died March 1623 at Jordans Journey, below Shirley Hundred Island, Jamestown, Va., left Bermuda May 9, 1609; arrived at Jamestown May 23, 1609.Service: Fought Indians from behind stockade on his premises; was member first house of Burgess, assembled August 9, 1609, and re-elected."

Mary was a descendant of Samuel Jordan, born in England, who in 1619 patented land,a nd founded a plantation called Jordan's Journey, in the present Prince George; was burgess for Charles City at the session of 30 July 1619; fortified his house, Beggar's Bush, during the Indian massacre of Marh1622 and 'lived in despite of the enemy,' but died in March 1623.Samuel Jordan is said to have had by his first wife: Thomas, Samuel and Robert, born in England, each of whom came to Virginia.He married second, Cicely ______, who survived him, and married, second Captain William Farrar.
