Personally appeared before me the undersigned one of the Justices of the Peace in and for the County of Clinton aforesaid, Thomas Reagan the within named applicant who being duly sworn deposeth and saith, that although his memory has been recently much refreshed in relation to his service in the revolution in consequence of more frequent conversation on that subject then he was formerly accustomed to have; yet by reason of old age and consequent loss of memory he cannot swear positively as to the precise length of his service but he would amend his forgoing affidavit by stating that according to the best of his recollection he served not less that the periods mentioned below and in the following grades, that is to say
For his first tour of duty beginning in the spring of 1770 he was in constant and active service untill sometime in the Fall of the same year making a period of at least Five Months (5 Mos.) He will here observe that during the aforesaid period he was a portion of time at home, but was then, night & day in active service for the supression of Tory co??estions in his more immediate neighborhood & his time was devoted to the service to the active neglect of his private concerns the whole country being then in imminent danger from our domestic foes.
That in the Fall of 1779 being what he would designate as the commencement of his second tour of service he was appointed to the Lieutenancy as stated in his declaration, and in that capacity he acted until the Fall of 1780 making a period of one full year and during that period he was in active service with the exception of not exceeding one month in the spring of 1780 -- his time was devoted to guarding the stations named in the declaration, in going on expeditions or in rangering duty in his more immediate vicinity, the time of active service as Lieut. was at least Eleven full months, not having devoted more than one month in the Spring as above stated to his private concerns.
In the Fall of 1780 as stated in his declaration he was appointed to the Captaincy; And here would observe that although he is confident and even certain that his active service as such Capt. exceeds the length of time set forth in his first amendatory affidavit, Yet he cannot now state with anything like exact precision the length of each particular tour of active service which he performed during the 2 years of his Captancy, previously to the close of the war, but according to the best his recollection he served continually from this time of his appointment which was late in the fall untill late in the ensuing Spring, say the last of April 1781 making a period of at least 6 months holding the office of Captain he had necessarily to be prepared for every little expedition in the country during the ensuing summer & fall but was not all the time in this service
But from some time late in the Fall of 1781 until about the last of February 1782 he was in active & unremitting service making a period of at least 3 full months, during the Summer of 1782 his time was spend much as it was during the preceding Summer on frequent expeditions but not in constant service, And the first of Sept previous to the capture of Cornwalis untill the fore part of the winter ensuing his capture this affidavit was in constant service on the Saluda, at the aforesaid stations and other places in the country making a period to the best of his recollection of little short of four months in this tour, but he is certain he served 3 full month in this tour --
That as herein before stated he served as a private 5 months as Lieut. 11 mos. and as Cap at least 12 months and for such service he claims a pension
