On this sixteenth day of January in the year Eighteen hundred and forty, personally appeared before me the undersigned a Justice of the Peace within and for said County Hannah Reagan a resident of the County and State aforesaid aged near Eighty Six doth saith, make the following declaration, in order to obtain the benefit of the provision made by the Act of Congress passed July 4th 1836.
That she is the widow of Thomas Reagan Dec'd, Who was a private and Captain in the army of the United States and who at the time of his death was receiving a pension from the United States Government of One hundred and eighty dollars a year. She further declares that she was married to the said Thomas Regan on the 20th day of September 1775.
That her husband died on the 25th day of July 1838, And that she has remained and is now, the widow of the said Thomas Reagan Dec'd.
She further declares that she has no records of her marriage, Nor record of the births of her children kept in a book, but has a record on a small piece of paper written by the individual who has subscribed his name thereto, to wit John Thomas a school teacher, who taught our children that were large enough to go to school at the time. The record was made she thinks in 1794 except the name of Hannah which he recorded the year following, 1795 some after her birth.
She further declares that there is no one man here that she knows of & by whom she can prove her marriage to the said Thomas Reagan, but that she and the said Thomas were married at the time and place and by the individual mentioned in her first declaration and that at the time her husband entered the service that they were not only married but that they had two children Rezin born July 7th 1777 and Jesse Reagan born Dec. 29th 1779 but can not say at what time her husband entered the service as to dates but knows ? that is was sometime after their marriage.
The paper on which is the only record I have of the births of my deceased husband, my own birth and the births of ? children I send herewith to the department hoping that when it's examined as proof in the ? may be returned to me again
