H. of Reps.
                                        23rd Dec. 1839

Sir

I have sent herewith certain Pension papers. I am not acquainted with the applicants, but I know Col. Maxwell, who is acting as agent for these people -- and can aprise the Commissioner that he would present no claim which he did not believe to be founded in justice. I will thank you, Sir, to examine the claims and allow them if they come within the act of Congress -- And that I transmit them to my friend Col. M.

I am, Sir, with much respect
                                Your Obd. Servant
