Descendants of James Almand

Generation No. 1

1. JAMES2 ALMAND (<UNNAMED>1) (Source: (1) 1830, 1840, & 1850 Census of Morgan County Ga.., (2) Tax Digest of Morgan County, Ga.., (3) Morgan County Ga. Land Records.) was born 1770 in Virgina, and died Bef. 1860 in Apalachee, Morgan County, Georgia. He married MARY ANDERSON (Source: Anderson last name is from the famliy notes of Maggie Lee Almand, Great Granddaughter.) Bef. 1796. She was born in Virgina, and died Bef. 1860 in Apalachee,Morgan County, Georgia.

Notes for J
AMES ALMAND:
Information on James Almand that confirms his children can be found in The Story of Apalachee by Etta S. Few, Author. Mrs Susan Martin, (Aunt Sue, second wife of Morgan Almand who married John Graves Martin after Morgan died), probably gave the info on the Almand family for this little book published in 1926.

Quoted verbatim:
The first of the Almand family to come to this country, from records obtained, were Tom and James who came here from North Carolina or Virginia. They first lived for a while in Conyers, but after a few years Jim Almand moved to this community and settled at the place where he reared a large family and live until his death-this place being on a knoll north of the Isaac Almand homestead where the Almand cemetery is located.
This man Jim, I, and wife reared the following children: Rhody, Lucy, Reuben, Billy, Dicky, Isaac, Morgan, Mathew, and Tinsley. There is no record of Rhody and Lucy after young lady hood. Reuben moved to the Sugar Creek neighborhood and is the ancestor of the Almands down there now, Sam Almand being one of his grandsons.

Editors Note:
(No marriage or other record has been linked to Rhody or Lucy. There is no further mention of Dicky in this history. I suspect that Susan did not know of him. I am positive that Dicky is Richard V. Almand who's marriage was found in Morgan Co. and who live there in Apalachee through the 1850 Census. He moved to Chattooga Co. where he and his children, one who married in Morgan Co. are found in the 1860 and 1870 Census and later, their name is found spelled Alman/Allman.) End of note.

Billy's children were Sonny, Reuben, and Thomas. Sonny moved to Rutledge and reared his family. (Sonny is Hails T. Almand) Reuben reared his family not far from the original Almand home place at the place now know as the Reuben Almand place which was also his father's. Mathew, son of Jim, reared his family in the Sandy Cross neighborhood.
Morgan settled and reared a family at the place near Beaver Dam Creek not far from the Elias Ruark place. The Morgan Almand homestead is still standing, (1926) His children were Mary Jane, Sarah Ann, Lucy, Georgia, Findora, and Jim.
Sarah Jane married John Sidwell and their children were John Tom, Sallie, Jim, and Rosa Belle.
John Tom married Maggie Fears and their Children were Fears, Melvin, Bessie, Pauline, and Edgar. John Tom's second wife was Stella Thompson (a cousin!)
and their children are Stanley, Clinton, Alfonza, Thompson, Mamie, Lois, Sarah, and Dorothy.
Rosa Belle Sidwell married Jim Almand (another cousin marriage!) and had five or six children. They moved to Union Point.
Jim Sidwell died in young manhood. Sallie Sidwell married Felix Ruark, Sr. and their children have previously been named.
Jim Almand, II, son of Morgan married his cousin Sallie, (Sarah) daughter of Tinsley Almand. They have reared a family near Monroe and they are good citizens. One son, Marshall, married Ruth Anderson of Bostwick and they live in Monroe.
Isaac Almand, who was a primitive Baptist preacher, son of Jim, I, had four wives.
By his first wife there were three children: Liza, Margaret, who died as a maiden lady, and Jimmy who married a Davis lady of Rutledge who after Jimmy's death became the wife of James I. Estes. She just died recently at her home near Rutledge. Issac Almand had no children by his second wife.
By his third wife he had five children. They were Osaac, Milton, Fanny, Monroe, and Lewis. Milton married Lena Malcom and reared his family at Social Circle. Fanny married Jim Thompson and reared a family at Bostwick. J. T. Sidwell's last wife is one of these. Also LeRoy Thompson, of Greene County railroad force. Lewis Almand moved away after a few years. ( to Comer, Madison County Georgia.)
Isaac Almands last wife was Sarah Malcom, sister to Barnett, Jim, and Tete Malcom of this county. Their children were Wilson, Hilsman, Sarah, and Daisy. Wilson married Bird Hanson and the couple with their three children, Sarah, Howard, and Annie Bird make their home with Mrs. Almand. Sarah or "Sweetie" lives with her mother also,
Hilsman married Etta Mitchem and lives here with their children: Hilda, Isaac, And Daisy Myrt. Daisy Almand married Harvey Herren of Fair Play and died of fever when her baby was little. Most of the Isaac Almand family were Primitive Baptist.
Tinsley Almand was the last child of Jim Almand, I, to die. His children were Sallie, Kate, Lucinda, Tom, Darthula, Emma, Anna, Lizzie, and Janie. Sallie married Morgan Almand's Jim. Kate, is "Miss Babe" who still lives here with her nephew and adopted son, Felix Ruark, Jr.
Tom reared a number of children, all of whom moved away. Darthula married Jett Landrum and of her several children only one lives in this community. He lives in the original Almand house. His name is Tinsley and he is the night watchman for the Shockley Lumber Co. He has a number of children. He married Miss Sims, Emma married Poss Beal and their children have previously been named.
Ann married Charlie Sanders and moved away after several years. Lissie married Kelsey Ruark and died after Felix was born. Kel Ruark died in 1924 in South Carolina.
All members of the Tinsley Almand family were Baptist except Felix Ruark, Jr. , and A.B. Beal family who live near here now. The principal occupation of the Almand family has been farming.

End of Quote.

James is found on the first page of the first Tax Digest of Morgan Co. and many tax digest afterwards. He left no will or estate to be settled that has been found. It is only known that he and his wife died sometime between 1850 and 1860 and are buried in the Old Almand Family Cemetery, Indian style, under large piles of rocks.
