Ham Welcome to the Gottschall and Ham Family Home Page.I am dedicating this page to Charles E. Ham, my father, who was a mathematics teacher at Van Nuys High School from about 1945 through 1975 and who died in Los Angeles, California in 1981.In addition, this page is dedicated to my mother, Frances Gottschall, who is still alive and well in the San Fernando Valley as well as all of my brothers, sister, aunts, nephews and nieces who may be interested in what is provided here. While we were growing up, my father often told us that our ancestory had been traced in America to prior to the American Revolution. He often related how we were descendants of John Elliot (Eliot), the Apostle to the Indians, who first translated the Bible to the Algonquin language.Much of the information that I have on our ancestors has come from the work that my father had started and collected over the years Since he passed away, however, I was able to find additional information in the records of a Mormon Library on his grandmother's family (Mendenhall) all the way back to a William Buckley (or Bulkley) born in 1498 in England.I have entered all of the information that I have on our ancestors thus far in the current version of Family Tree Maker and would be happy to share it with anyone who is interested. On my mother's side, her father, the Rev. Lewis Douglas Gottschall, DD was a Canon and Rector of St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Oakland, California. His father, James Gottschall was a policeman in Pennsylvania in the late 1800's.He was from a family of Menonites. GOALS: My current goals are to fill in the information that we are missing which includes the following: Joshua Ham (circa 1800 in Pendleton District, South Carolina) I would like to determine who were Joshua's parents and continue the search of the Ham lineage as far back as possible.Joshua was married to Mary Williams, and the family is listed in the Pendleton District 1800 Census with 6 children. Joseph Elliot (b. abt 1704) Joseph Elliot is currently the earliest known ancestor of Elizabeth Ann Elliotwho was bornin 1831 in Sutton, Massechusets.Elizabeth married William Ham in the mid-1800's and they lived on a large farm in Pike County, Illinois. It is through Elizabeth that our family is supposed to be descendants of John Elliot, the apostle (early 1600's).As of yet, though, Joseph is the earliest Elliot on whom we have information. He was married to Jerusha Fuller who died in Sutton, Massechusets in 1788.I would like as much additional information on Joseph and his ancestors to track his lineage back further. James Gottschall (b.1870) James was my mother's grandfather who was from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. We know the names of his brothers and sisters, but right now we have no information on his parents. His wife, Katie May Jones, was from Wales. From my mother and Aunt Lorraine, we know that James was a policeman and that he was from a family of Menonites.I would like additional information on James' parents and family. Francis H. Parsels (b. 1857) Francis H. Parsels andLorena Baylywho lived in Philadelphia were the parents of Mary Ann Parsels who was my mother's mother. We would like to have further information on this line of our family tree. If you have any further information that may assist me in researching the above individuals, please contact me at [email protected]. |
