Thomas Hamilton of Adair Co. Kentucky

Thomas Hamilton was a native of Ireland who came to the U.S. and was bound out to pay for his passage. He served 2 seven year terms. Thomas then married and moved to Kentucky. He purchased 159A. on Butlers Fork of Russell Creek in what became Adair Co. Kentucky. This land was surveyed Sept. 19, 1796. I am hoping to find out where Thomas was before Kentucky. The parents of his wife Barbary. When and where he was married. Thomas's son, Levi Hamilton born 1802 in Adair Co. Kty. is my ancester.

Levi married Malinda Creel, dauaghter of Durham and Mary Polly (Smith) Creel in 1825. About 1830 they moved to McDonough Co. Illinois along with most of the Durham Creel family.

Thomas's other children were:
Rebecca Hamilton married Charles Skaggs 1815,they moved to Calloway Co. Kentucky. Descendants are in Texas and Missouri. Ida Lancaster (link below) has some information on this family in her book Skaggs "The Long Hunter Vol. I".

David and Jesse Hamilton moved to Clay Co. Missouri, some descendants went to Oregon.

Merrit married Susan Musser 1823, some of their descendants are in Texas. Holli Kees (link below) researches this family

Lucy Hamilton married John Caldwell 1825 and moved to Obion Co. Tennessee. John Ross jkross@apex.net has information on this family.

John Hamilton was married but because there was at least 2 John Hamilton's in Adair Co. about the same age it is difficult to know which one was Thomas's son.

Nancy Hamilton married Henry Caldwell 1827. I believe this was the only family that remained in Adair Co.

Amanda Hamilton married 1)Sydney Dawson 1835. 2)Wm. Moss and was living in Green Co. Kentucky. 1860 Green Co. census she was listed with the surname of Bottoms, possibly a 3rd marriage ?
Bruce Curtis has information on Amanda's daughter Mary Jane Moss.

My ancestral line Levi & Malinda (Creel) Hamilton moved to McDonough Co. Illinois about 1830 with 2 of their sons Harrison & Uriah, the 3rd son Silas was born in McDonough Co. In 1878 Levi & Malinda moved with their son Uriah to Shenandoah, Iowa where Levi died in 1882.

Levi's son Harrison, remained in McDonough Co. Illinois where he married Rachel Ballance Jan. 8,1848. Their son Joseph Franklin Hamilton born Dec. 3, 1852 is my Great Grandfather.

Joseph Franklin Hamilton married Anna Lucinda Allison March 5, 1879 and my Grandfather Andrew Welbourne Hamilton was born Nov. 28, 1880.

Andrew W. Hamilton married Mettie O. Ellis Nov. 22, 1901 in McDonough Co. Illinois. In 1910 Andrew & Mettie along with their 4 eldest children & a niece immigrated to Saskatchewan. Where my father Joseph R. Hamilton was born July 22, 1911.

May 20, 1938 Joseph R. Hamilton married Margaret T. Roraff and they raised a family of 10 children in the town of LeRoy, Saskatchewan.
