I am primarily researching the ancestors of my mother, Ruth Aura Lawson-Chappelear, of Culpeper County, VA, who was a descendant of the royal and noble families of Europe through her Garner-Keene-Gosnolde lines.The maternal surnames I am researhing in America include: Brammell, Briscoe, Chappelear (Chapelier), DeCourcy, Garner (Gardiner), Harrison, Huff, Keene, Lawson, Phillips, Shumate (De La Chaumette), Thorley, Waters, and Williams. Secondly, I am researching the ancestors of my father, John Henry Hamilton, of Edgefield County, SC, who is said to be a descendant of the same family as Alexander Hamilton, but I have not as yet verified the connection.The surnames I am researching on my paternal side also include: Armstrong, Brunson, Doggett, and Holloway.
