His father, Robert Young ANDERSON was born in TN. No other info. My father, George Henry ANDERSON was born in Malden, MO in 1908. I was born in my parents bedroom in Malden, MO in 1937.
Great grandfather James CASSELS lived in the Missouri Bootheel. My Grandmother, Mattie Louise CASSELS was born in Kennett as was her older brother Benjamin CASSELS. Nothing else is known about James CASSELS other than he is buried in Ohio. My Great Grandmother was Laura P. Johnson born in 1863. When she died in 1946 her name was Laura P. Ellis.
My ancestor William CLAIBORNE, was founder of the Virginia family of CLAIBORNE of "Romancoke" King William County, VA b. 1587 d. 1677. He came to Virginia aboard the ship "George" as a Royal Suveyor for the Colony of Jamestown. One of his positions included being appointed the first Secretary of the State of Virginia.
Luci CLAIBORNE, grandaughter of William CLAIBORNE married Samuel DUVAL, son of the Huguenots Daniel DUVAL and Philadelphia DUBOIS. History tells us that Daniel first went to England where he was joined by Philadelphia who escaped France disguised as a boy. She is said to have brought with her a gold tureen and six gold goblets, a wedding present, no doubt, from her powerful and influential uncle,Cardinal Abbe' DUVAL. Daniel and Philadelphia sailed from Blackwell in London on December 8, 1700 aboard the ship "Nassau." They arrived in Gloucester County, VA on March 5, 1701. The descendents of Daniel and Philadelphia include William Pope DuVal, first governor of Florida.
Thomas DUNSCOMBE and his wife Hannah JADWIN emigrated to Bermuda probably between 1618 and 1627. Their son Samuel emigrated to New York City about 1663 and I am descended from Samuel's son, Daniel DUNSCOMBE who died before 1773. His son, Daniel from whom I descend served as Captain in the French and Indian Wars, 1762, was a member of NY Congress 1776-77, the Committee of Safety, 1776, First Constitutional Committee, 1777 and is buried in the north part of Trinty Churchyard in New York City. Daniel's half brother, Andrew DUNSCOMBE, married Philadelphia DUVAL, sister of Samuel Shepherd DUVAL.
My 4th Great Grandfather Gilliam HOPPER was probably born in North Carolina before 1775. He imigrated to Warren County, TN where in 1825 he shot a man over a land dispute. Gilliam and his son, Gilliam Jr. fled the county and wound up in Grayson County, KY where they established themselves as John and Dock Brown. In 1837 Abasalom Hopper moved with his family to Gibson County, TN and in 1851 Abasalom and his brother "Dock" were in a shootout with each other and both died. In 1872 Abasalom's son, Gilliam Monroe Hopper, my great great Grandfather, moved his wife and children to Dunklin County, MO where he lived until his death in August, 1914. He and my great great Grandmother Elizabeth Daniel, were two of the five founders of the Methodist Episcopal Church South in Malden, MO and both are buried in the Park Cemetery in Malden.
John Alexander HOGUE was my great Grandfather. He was born in Obion County, TN in 1841. His third wife, Mary Elizabeth HOWELL,born in Union City, TN in 1854, were the parents of my Grandfather, Dr. John A. HOGUE, Jr. born in 1883. Dr. HOGUE and Mattie Louise CASSELS were the parents of my mother, Vivien HOGUE ANDERSON.
Most of my ancestors emigrated to the Missouri Bootheel from Kentucky and Tennessee.
