Ah, you caught me... I didn't look close enough at my database. There
is an anomoly with this family.

The Macon County Cemetary book says that William Edward "Billy" Dycus
was born in 1779 and died abt 1870, and that Winnie was HIS widow. This
is also where the John Carver 1788 reference appears. However, the 1880
Census says that William and Winnie are living in District 7 of Macon
County and are 80 years old. Because of this descrepancy, I put a
father in my computer database with the same name (William Edward) with
the given birth and death dates from the book and listed a son as
Winnie's husband being born about 1800 (which would have been when his
father was 21, figuring that there was a possibility that someone could
have misread the stone, reading 1779 for 1799. BUT, the issue is
further confounded by the fact that the 1880 census lists Winnie's
husband as having been born in NC and if he was born around 1800 and is
the 1779 William's son who supposedly was already in TN, how did he get
born in NC? And why does the 1800 census list him at 80 years when he
actually would have been 100? Was he lying to his wife? His inlaws
would have had to know the difference.... Anyway, sorry for the
confusion, I guess I don't know as much as I thought.

BTW, somewhere I picked up a middle name for Winnie as Minerva which I
think is different than what you have.

Hi

My name is Ron Swezea. I am working on my family lines in Jackson Co.TN

I found in the early setters of Jackson Co. a Rha Family. Could Rha
become Ray.

My g-g-g grand mother was Anna Dycus. She married Mathias Sweazea born
(abt 1784) in Rutherford, NC. Mathias and his wife were married about
1805, moved to Roane Co ( now Jackson Co) with the rest of the Dycus
clan. You might look to Ruthford, NC before 1800 for the Dycus family.

The oldest daughter Lousia Sweazea married John A. Ray Sr.

Children

Fountain Pitts Ray born Sept 12, 1830
Sweezy Ray born about 1820 - Lousia gandfather was Mathias SWEEZY. The
name
was changed in GA.

grandfather Richard
Coulter.
John A Ray Jr.
Cinder Ray about 1837
Green Ray about 1840
Luvina Ray about 1842
John B. Ray about 1845
Joe Ray

If you find the Dycus family in NC and happen to ID. Anna's family
please E mail.

Thank you

Ron Swezea

Hi, Nancy

Please, PLEASE forgive my delay in replying....I've been busy trying to
clean up after a hurricane and a disastrous attempt to install Win98!
Things have been a bit busy :-)

The Dycus family is not one of my main lines of research at present. I'm
trying really hard to break thru some major brick walls on my father's
family, the LOVELACEs. My Dycus line comes through my grandmother, Arrie
Wright Lovelace, and I have barely begun looking at her line.

The only Margaret Dycus I have is the wife of Edward Dycus. The were
married ca1745 in Rowan Co., NC.

The reference on the little bit I have on the Dycus was a genealogy
entitled "Dycus Family Records" by William A. Dycus of Asheville, NC. I
can't find this document anywhere, but I do know that I only entered
selected parts of it into my database. It's possible that it has more on
the family you're interested in. I'm sorry I can't lay may hands on it.
It was in the files of one John Edwards of Ellenboro, NC. Other stuff of
his has been found at either the Old Tryon Genealogical Society or the
Broad River Genealogical Society:

Genealogical Society of Old Tryon Co., Inc
P.O. Box 938
Forest City, NC

Broad River Genealogical Society
P O Box 2261
Shelby, N.C. 28151-2261
http://www.rootsweb.com/~ncclevel/brgs.htm

You might check one or both of them to see if they have the paper.....

Sorry I couldn't be of more help....

Peace,
Part of the Tree,
Greg
