On September 15, 1752, 101 men stepped off the ship “Two Brothers” which had docked on the Delaware River at Philadelphia. While their families waited on board, the men were marched two blocks up Market Street to the Courthouse where they each swore an oath of allegiance to the British Crown, King George II. One of the men who signed his name that Fall day was Johann Christian Albürger. He and his wife, Katharina Elisabeth, and their seven children had left the village of Hachenburg, in what is now Lower Saxony, Germany, about 6 months earlier. Twenty-five years later, in 1777, Christian and Katharina’s eldest son Philip would renounce his allegiance to Great Britain and take up arms against England in the American Revolution.

The Albürger Family is the earliest of our immigrant ancestors to arrive in America, but they are just one of six immigrant families whose descendents are part of the Hansen Family line. The others are the Halloran, Hansen, Harvey, Husmann and Slattery families. They arrived in America between 1752 and 1903.

The Madigan Family line ancestors include seven immigrant families. They are the Lohstroh, Madigan, McCormack, Morgan, Muench, Ortmann and Twohig families. They arrived in America between the years of 1846 and 1907.

Their origins, journeys and legacies are the subjects of this website.
