From the Middletown Newspaper Feb. 6, 1910: OBITUARY Matilda Denison (sic) Parsells Wurtsboro, Feb. 6 - Special -- It is with sadness and regret we are called upon to record the removal by death of one of our most highly respected and life-long residents. Matilda Dennison Parsells, wife of Jacob G. Parsells, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Orrin Jordan of Passiac, NJ on January 29, aged seventy-four years. Mrs. Parsells was the daughter of the Rev. Eli Denniston of Washingtonville, NY. She spent the greater part of her life at Wurtsboro, where for over 60 years she was a faithful member and active worker in the Methodist Episcopal Church, being also secretary of the Ladies Aid Society of the church from the time the Society was organized in 1878 until recently, when failing health compelled her to transfer her duties to those younger in years. Mrs. Parsells was a refined, educated woman....Those who knew her best can but say that 'Aunt Til', as she was familiarly known, was kind, gentle and sympathetic, always willing and ready to help bear the trials and burdens of others. She was a woman who will not only be missed from her noble church work, her associates and the Ladies Aid Society, but by a large circle of friends in this community. She is survived by her husband, Jacob G. Parsells, to who she was united in marriage 55 years ago. There are three children living: Mrs. Orrin Jordan of Passiac, NJ; Fred Parsells of Stamford, Conn. and Dr. Charles Parsells of Narrowsburgh, NY. Also one adopted daughter, Mrs. Lena Benz of Oswego, NY, who made her home with Mrs. Parsells since childhood. There were three children who died in infantcy. Rev. J.T. Parker, her pastor, officiated at the funeral, which was held in her Kingston Avenue home in Wurtsboro on Wednesday, Feb. 1. Burial to be in the family plot in Sylvan Cemetery, Wurtsboro.
