Official in Area School System Dies Suddenly Robert W. Workman Dies at 44 YOUNGSTOWN, June 30 -- Robert W. Workman, 44, Director of Elementary Education in the Lewiston Porter Central school system, died suddenly at his home in Lake Road late yesterday afternoon. He was born Oct. 5, 1911 (sic) in Oswego, son of Vina and Walter Workman. He attended schools there and at the State Teachers College of Oswego, where he was active in school athletics. He was a 1936 graduate of Oswego State Teachers College and took further work in education at Syracuse University, Buffalo State Teachers College, Oswego, and Niagara University. He worked in three school systems specializing in the field of education, was at the Vestal Central School for nine years and Cato-Meridan Central school for three years before coming to Lewiston Porter July 1, 1950. From 1936-45, he taught elementary grades at Vestal, where he was also a specialist in remedial reading and coordinator of grade work. He worked as Director of Elementary Education at Cato-Meridian Central School in 1950-51. In college, he was president of the Student Council and a letterman in basketball. He has directed football, tennis and swimming in summer camps and played the violin in theater orchestras. At Vestal, he coached the football and basketball teams. Besides his parents, he is survived by his wife, Charlotte, three children, Linda, Robert and Susan Workman, and two brothers, Richard Workman, Oswego and the Rev. George Workman, Troy, Ohio. The body has been taken to Oswego to the Dane (sic) Memorial Chapel, where services will be held during the weekend and internment in Riverside Cemetery there. -- Niagara Falls Gazette, June 30, 1955
