John R. Parsells Obituary From Middletown newspaper December 14, 1911 Part Jervis, Dec. 14 -- John Russell Parsells died at the home of Mrs. Ann E.G. Cuddeback in Hugenot on Wednesday, December 13 at 5:20 p.m. after a long illness. He was aged 62 years. Mr. Parsells was the son of John and Elizabeth Parsells of Wurtsboro and was a descendant of Don Gonsaulus, the first white settler of Sullivan County, NY. Mr. Parsells entered the service of the Erie Railroad at age 17 and for a number of years was conductor on the Barkley Branch. Later, he was yardmaster at Pittston, PA and afterwards came east and was yardmaster at Newburgh, NY. Mr. Parsells came to Hugenot 25 years ago and entered the employ of the late Lewis Cuddeback, and since the death of Mr. Cuddeback has been manager of the farm for the family. Throughout his long life he was an earnest student of history and took great interest in political affairs. Mr. Parsells is survived by two daughters, Mrs. William C. Benz of Oswego and Mrs. Harry Graff of New York City and by three brothers and two sisters, Jasper Parsells, Harriet Parsells and Mrs. J.E. Holmes, all of Wurtsboro; Jacob Parsells of Passiac, NJ and William Parsells of Ellenville. Rev. Willard Conger will conduct the funeral service. Interment will be in Cuddebackville Cemetery.
