1. THOMAS1 MACKIE was born Abt. 1740 in Province of Ulster, Tyrone County, Ireland, and died July 23, 1796 in Elbert County, Georgia. He married ROSANNAH MCINTIRE in Ireland.

HOMAS MACKIE:
Thomas Mackie was living in Tyrone County, Ireland in 1761. With his wife and several children, he emigrated to Rowan, later Burke County, North Carolina, before the American Revolution. (Pension Records of his son, Samuel) He asked for the following surveys of lands in Burke County, North Carolina:

      1.      Order for survey No. 584 Entered 4 Nov 1778 Burke Co. N. C. for
      Thos. Mackey, 100a lying on a branch of Henry's Rv. Just below the Forks. sg.
      by Chas. McDowell. Surveyor's Certf. Sg, By Chas. Beckman, Danl Vance,             Deputy Surv. Thos. Bradley & Jesse Walker, Chain Carriers/Dated 24 Feb. 1779.       (Name spelled Mackey in all instances)

      2.      Order for survey No. 585 entered 4 Nov 1778 Burke Co, N.C. Thomas
      Mackey, 640 a. including sd Mackey's improvements; improvements made by
      John Jones & others, all on waters of Hunting Creek joining Lines with Stringfield       and Mordecai Morgan. Chas. McDowell, E. T. Surveyors Certf. Sg. by Chas.             Beckman, C. S., Wm. Bailey and Jesse Walker list 467a. for Thomas Mackey on
      both sided of a fork of Hunting Creek bounded by Ezekial Stringfield, Wm.
      Bailey, Mordecai Morgan and said Macky's own land and near road that leads
      from Burke C. H. to Broad River. Dated Feb. 25, 1779.

      3.       Order for Survey No. 1101 Entered 30 Nov 1778 Burke Co., N. C. for
      Thomas Mackey, containing 640a. lying between the constitionell lines maid      
      (sic). Between Thomas Wilson and himself and Thomas Hemphill and including
      all the improvements on both sides of Silver Creek between said Willson's and
      Hemphill's lines. Dated 30 Jan 1779. Surveyor's Certf. Dated Burke Co., N. C.
      13 Oct 1779. For 454a. for Thomas Mackie, bounded as above, including the
      little fork of Silver Creek.

      4.      Order for survey Burke Co., N. C. No. 1321 for Thos, Mackey, 640a.
      lying in the Co. aforesd. On the Cherokee forks of Hunting Creek bounding on
      his former entry and including some part of his own improvements and including
      both sides of the Creek up to the Cerokee fork. Enterest 30 Dec 1778. Dated 10       Mch 1780. C, McDowell, surveyor's Certf. Of land for Thos. Mackey lying above
      described & bounded by Ezekiel Stringfield his own survey, Mordecai Morgan,
      Jesse Walker and the South Fork Mountain. Sg. Per order of Danl. Vance C.
      Surv. by me Joe Greer, D. Surv. Ezekiel Stringfield & Thos. Bradley, Chain
      Bearers. (N. B. Name written in plat Thomas Mackey 610a.).

      About 1785 Thomas Mackie moved to Wilkes County, Georgia, and was living in what was created into Elbert County, Ga., in 1790. He was a member of the Concord Presbyterian Church, now in Madison County, Ga., at the time of his death in 1796, "a very old man." He is said to be buried in Hampton Cemetery, near Danielsville, Georgia. Thomas Mackie was a soldier of the Revolution in N. C. as shown by Bk. ETO G-4-6 Item 51: "Thomas Mackey/Mackie 53 L's allowed by Comm. of Claims Nov 1776." Knights Georgia Roster of the Revolution: "Thomas Mackie, soldier N. C. Troops-361."
