I am researching the Weatherford family from Lunenberg County, VA.and Maury/Giles Co., TN The Weatherford family was among the earliest settlers in the Colony of Virginia. John Witherford/Weatherford is listed in York Co. VA. on June 26, 1642. John was born 1615 in Warwickshire, England. Later there are two birth entries in St. Peter's Parish Register of New Kent and James City Counties. "Jno., son of Wm. Wetherford by Susannah, bapt. 9 June 1700 and then, "William, son of Wm. Wetherford bapt. 7 Feb. 1702/03." In the Vestry Book of St. Paul's Parish, Hanover County 1706-1786 is the following: "William Wetherford & Thomas Wetherford to forthwith give their attendance in making a road _ Jan. 1, 1707/08....Richard Wetherford --his lands processioned Mar. 14th, 1708/09." There were therefore, three Weatherfords in Hanover County by 1708: Richard, Thomas and William. They lived near one another and were very likely brothers. It is probable that the William Weatherford mentioned in St. Peter's Parish Register of New Kent and James City Counties is the same William Weatherford listed in the Vestry Book of St. Paul's Parish, Hanover Co., 1706-1786 In my research I have also found that John born 1615 in England had one son William, born 1645 York Co., VA. William had 6 sons Thomas, William, Richard, John, Charles and James, born in Henrico County, VA between 1675-1687 In the late 1740's the families of William and Richard Weatherford moved to the new frontier in Lunenberg County. William Weatherford's family settled in the upper Cub Creek section of what is now Charlotte County. Richard Weatherford's family secured land in what is now Mecklenburg County below the Meherrin River on Buckhorn Creek. The Weatherford families thrived in Virginia. Each of William's, (born 1645) sons had large families, the names of William, John, Richard, Charles, Thomas and James were passed down from generation to generation. Soon the Virginia Weatherfords were found in several counties of Virginia, Hanover, Lunenberg, Charlotte, Mecklenburg, Pittslyvania, Amelia, Albermarle,Halifax, Cumberland counties.
I am interested in finding any information on a Masten Weatherford, son of William Weatherford a Revolutionary War Vet and Mary Robertson daughter of Edward Robertson and Judith Southall of Cumberland Co., VA. Masten moved to Maury Co, TN about 1830. I would like to know who he came to Tennessee with?? There were several other Weatherford families found in Tennessee around the same time(early 1800's) in nearby counties but I have not been able to make a connection. Masten had several brothers, William, Joseph, Jonas, Josiah, and Hillary, as well as sisters Ann, Tabitha, Peggy, Polly, and Judith. His brother William may have moved to Sullivan Co., TN Hillary and his wife Elizabeth lived in Lunenburg, VA with 2 of his unmarried sisters Ann and Peggy. Jonas may have moved to Roane Co., TN??
I am also looking for information on a John Harvey Dugger of Maury Co, TN who was married to Martha Ann Walls and then Elizabeth Jane Brown around 1850-1860. Also Raymond Maston Bailey of Giles Co., TN who had a son John born 1855 and Joe born 1865.
Any help with would be appreciated.
