The Families of DELORIS C. HARRINGTON.......Columbus, Ohio:

"THE MAN WHO CUTS HIS ROOTS AWAY AND DENIES THAT THEY EVER WERE CONNECTED WITH HIM WITHERS INTO HALF A MAN", by John Graves, Good Buy To A River.

THE FAMILY MOTTO IS, "LIBERTAS"

My desire is to share the years of research that started in 1976 after the death of my father, George Allen Hicks Sr., a lot of effort has been put into the search, with the thanks of many relatives, namely Rosa Ford Shelby, Willia Ann Hicks Taylor and Ida Brown Green and to whom I dedicate this work.

The first "Chatters Family Reunion", was held July 22-24,1988 in New Orleans, LA, - the creation of Irene and John Townsend, MDs of Silver Springs, MD., It was a eventful event and Family members came from Maryland, Columbus,Ohio, New Orleans,
Louisana, Charleston, South Carolina, Compton, Granada Hill, California, Gary,Indiana, Austin,Texas, Marianna, Arkansas, Charleston,South Carolina, Durham, North Carolina, Missouri, Pennsylvania, Flint, Michigan, East St.Louis, Illinois, Seattle, Washington, and Windsor,Ontario Canada.

The second "Chatters Family Reunion", was held in Atlanta, Georgia in July,1990 and hosted by Valecia Holmes. We have a wonderful time at the Underground and we visited Martin
Luther King Memorial, his Church and we were able to see the Historical Spellman College.

The third "Chatters Family Reunion", was held in Las Vegas, NV, July 23, 1992 and hosted by Marion Hicks Blackwell and Greta Chatters. Everything was held at the Sahara Hotel. We had lunch at Nellis Air Force Base, took a tour to Hoover Dam, we danced, and the children had a wonderful time at Circus, Circus and Excalibar. Gene Holmes wrote a beautiful poem,"Being a Chatters".

The Fourth "Chatters Family Reunion" was held in New Orleans, LA, in July, 1994 and hosted by the New Orleans family at the Hyatt. We went to the French Quarter, took a Cruise, and other tours. The children bought their music instruments and had a Talent show at the picnic held at Pass Christian, MS. We danced, and had a wonderful time. We always have a business
meeting at our reunions, and on the last day which is always a Sunday we go to Prayer Service.

The fifth "Chatters Reunion", was held in July 1996, "The Road That Led to Freedom", in Windsor,Ontario,Canada and hosted by Harriett Chatters Rose held at the Compri Hotel Harrietts' letter stated "It was a time for us to come once again to share time and love together". We are proud of the tradition started which strengthens our family ties. Family and friends are a blessing we can cherish for a life time. The Friday tour recreated the courageous passage of black slaves fleeing to Canada through the "Underground Railroad", we lunched on the riverfront, took pictures at Coventry Gardens and toured Hiram Walkers. We had our Family History, Business Meeting and Dinner Dance. Sunday we had our Praise Service and farewells.

The sixth "Chatters Family Reunion", was held July 17-19 1998, "Where It All Started", Charleston, SC. We stayed at the Hawthorn Suites and took tours throughout Charleston. A small but spirited group of relative met and since Charleston is replete with historical sites of general interest. As a result of the reserchers diligence, she was able to document a specific place where a Chatters lived in the 1800's on "Rainbow Row", the
pink house. The past two years witnessed many small as well as significant changes in our Extended Family thus underscoring the need to stay connected.
Therefore, the next "Chatters Family Reunion", was scheduled to take place at the "Middleton Plantation Inn".

The Seventh Reunion was held July 16-18, 1999 in Charleston,
SC., at the Middleton Plantation Inn. I was unable to attend due to things beyond my control. Everyone had a wonderful time abd stated it peaceful place to have a Reunion.
