The HARKINK -and- GEIER Family Trees

Updated September 5, 2000

TO ALL FAMILY, FRIENDS, and GENEALOGY ENTHUSIASTS:

About 3 years ago I decided to become heavily involved in the research of my family tree. It didn't take too long to vastly widen my research to include all ancestral families that related to our daughter. Wow, what an undertaking. Bit by bit, I have uncovered various pieces of information that have built the Family Tree that I am currently updating. I was extremely lucky to connect with a distant cousin living in Vienna, AUSTRIA, who had done extensive research on my mother's family; for the time being, I have not expanded upon this research to include confirming data on the USA side.

I am currently researching the following 2 families, with all their related maternal ancestors:

GEIER this is the author's paternal family and where most of the research has taken place. This family is rooted in South Bend, St. Joseph County, INDIANA (about 1920s to 1980s), previously in Newton and White Counties, INDIANA (about 1861 to 1920s). Prior to that Posen, PRUSSIA. Families being researched in this line include:

* GEIER/GEYER from South Bend, St Joseph County, INDIANA; Reynolds, White County, INDIANA; Newton County, INDIANA; Posen, PRUSSIA; and other points in GERMANY.

* WIESE from Reynolds & Big Creek, White County, INDIANA; probably Posen, PRUSSIA previous to that.

* ROSENTRATER from Reynolds & Big Creek, White County, INDIANA; possibly PRUSSIA prior to that.

* HAYES/HAASE from Reynolds, White County, INDIANA; Kolmar, Posen, PRUSSIA. The parents of this g-g-grandmother, were HAASE & WIESE from Posen, PRUSSIA. This made a direct connection between two different sides of my GEIER family at the g-g-g-grandparent level.

* ROSENBROCK from South Bend, St Joseph County, INDIANA; Brook, Newton County, INDIANA; GERMANY (location TBD).

* ORTMAN from Goodland, Newton County, INDIANA; GERMANY (location TBD).

* HEDL & KERESZTESI from South Bend, St Joseph County, INDIANA; Vienna, AUSTRIA. This is the author's maternal ancestors referred to earlier.

HARKINK this is the author's husband's family. The HARKINK family is small, with current families residing in So. CALIFORNIA(2), Wyoming(1), Chicago(1). These familes are directly or indirectly descended from BERNHARD HARKINK & THERESA MIKOLITSCH from DuPage County, ILLINOIS (about 1910-1960s), who both previously resided in Indianapolis, Marion County, INDIANA (about 1900-1910). Prior to that, he (BERNHARD HARKINK) came from the NETHERLANDS (confirming info TBD and locations TBD). She (THERESA MIKOLITSCH) supposedly came from Vienna, AUSTRIA but TBD. Associated through marriage to HARKINK are the following DIX-related families:

* DIX from Simi Valley, Los Angeles County, CALIFORNIA; Sebastian County, ARKANSAS; and previously, ???(TBD)

* PHILLIPS from Sebastian County, ARKANSAS; and previously, ???(TBD)

* SWAIM from Simi Valley, Los Angeles County, CALIFORNIA; Booneville, Logan County, ARKANSAS; Jackson County, ARKANSAS; and NEW YORK (TBD)

* TERWILLIGER from Booneville, Logan County, ARKANSAS; Columbia County, PENNSYLVANIA; and previously NEW YORK ??

* NAGLE from Booneville, Logan County, ARKANSAS; Columbia County, PENNSYLVANIA.

A lot more reseach needs to be done, especially in the area of "confirmation", meaning that Birth, Death, and Naturalization Certificates need to be obtained and added to my records. Most information found to-date was either "online", or at the LDS Family History Libraries, or through CD-ROMS that I've purchased through various sources.
