Hello, I am researching several family surnames but haven't been able to get farther back than the late 18th century.
Logically I'm researching the family name HARRISON. My Harrison ancestors lived primarily in Ashover, Derbyshire, England. My grandfather married Annie MURFIN in 1898 in Derby, and they brought their family to the United States in 1914.
Another other family I'm researching is that of my maternal grandfather, Paul Vincent ODENTHAL. The Odenthals came from the area around Cologne, Germany and moved to the United States around 1870, after the Franco-Prussian War. Peter Jospeh Odenthal with several of his siblings and his own children settled in central Illinois. Later part of the family moved to Platte County, Nebraska and the others to Dixon, Illinois.
On my maternal grandmother's side of the family there has been much research. This is the surname OUTMAN. This family appears around 1775 in Orange County, New York. Somewhere along the way the original family name was changed to Outman, and it is fairly safe to say that all Outmans in the United States are related to one another. My great-great grandfather, George Willis Outman, was killed in the Battle of Stones River in the Civil War.
The last family I'd like to research, but for which I have found practically no information, is my great-grandfather's family, BARTON. His name was Lemuel Marion Barton, and his parents, William C. Barton and Eliza Edwards, came from Hamilton Butler County, Ohio.
Thanks for reading through all of this.
