Will of Polly Claud , 3 October 1836, Southampton County, Will Book 11:542

In the name of God amen: I Polly Claud of the county of Southampton and State of Virginia being through the abundant mercy of God well in body and of sound mind and perfect memory do make an ordain this my last will and Testament in manner and form following viz----

I first recommend my soul to the Almighty God who gave it and my body to be buried in a Christian like manner to the discretion of my Executors hereafter mentioned and as to worldly good it has pleased God to bestow on me whilst in This life, I dispose of them in the following manner Viz It is my Will and desire that all my just debts should be paid and after that I give to my son William Claud one dollar, also I give one hundred dollars to be equally divided among my five children mainly Milly Claud, Rebeck Claud, Mary Ann Claud, Jesse J. Claud also it is my Wish and desire that all the balance of my estate should be sold and equally divided among my living children except William Claud.

I do hereby constitute and appoint my son Philip J. Claud my Executor to this my last Will and Testament. As witnessed I have here unto set my hand and fixed my seal this Third day of October Eighteen hundred and Thirty one.

At a court held for the County of Southampton the 20th day of February 1837 . This last will and Testament of Polly Claud decd. was proved to the oath of John A. Thomas and Charles Ivey, two of the witnesses thereto , and ordered to be recorded. And on the motion of Philip Claud, the only executor therein named. who made oath and together with John A. Thomas and James W. Claud his Securities entered into and acknowledged a bond in the penalty of two thousand dollars, conditioned as the Law directs Certificate is granted him for obtaining a probate of the said Will in due form and at a Court held for said County the 20th day of March 1837 , The said Will was further proved by the oath of Robert T. Musgrave a witness thereto
