| Janice Nedra Harrison | For the past couple of years, I have been learning genealogy, and have been researching the following surnames:Harrison, Dixon, Smith, McWilliams, Claar, Graham, Ratcliff, Funkhouser,Hale, Breech, Gabbert, Buffington, Mercer, and Nottingham.My family comes from Ohio, via Pennsylvania and Virginia, and from England, Ireland, Scotland, Switzerland, Germany, and Wales before that.I am willing to share what I have learned in my study, and would like to hear from anyone who is studying the same lines.On the Harrison line, I can go back only to my ggrandfather, George Harrison, who was born between l815 and 1818, possibly in VA.On the Dixon line, I can go back to Abraham Dixon, b. ca 1755. My paternal great great grandfather was Owen Hale, who was born in South Carolina in 1782.I know that his father was named Thomas Hale, and his mother was named Jane.I do not know the names of his siblings.I am seeking more information on the Hale family. My paternal great grandfather was George T. Harrison, who was born in Virginia about 1816.His mother's maiden name might have been Scott.I do not know the names of his father, or his siblings.I am seeking more information on the Harrison family. My paternal grandfather was Charles Matson Harrison.He was born in Monroe Co. Ohio in 1837.He served as a Captain in the Union Army during the Civil War, Company H, 63rd Ohio Volunteer Infantry.I have his letters that he wrote home during the war, and they are interesting reading.He wrote to his mother, Esther Hale Harrison, telling her how to keep the farm back in Athens Co. Ohio going, since both he and his father were away at war. |
