Notes for EBENEZER WESTCOT GOODWIN: Was one of three men from Marlboro Co.,SC who signed the ordinance of secession, withdrawing South Carolina from the Union. He was a merchant, owned a grist mill and a large amount of property. He and his wife had no children, but raised the children of his brother Frank who was being mistreated by a step-mother in Miss. E.W. sent a wagon, horses and driver to get him from Hinds Co.,Miss. Frank was later killed in a 'beef shoot' in 1866 in Miss. |
