West Family Group 15
W28 and W68 match on 24 of 25 markers. They were placed in Family Group #15 on 3 Nov 2005 following receipt of the DNA results for W68. The oldest ancestors of W28 are James Alexander WEST, probably born before 1850, place unknown, and his third wife Eva. James Alexander WEST is buried in Sterling Kansas.
W68 is descended from James N. WEST, b 18358-40 in Tennessee, and died between 1910-20 in Georgia. His wife was Nancy Lucinda SOUTHERLAND, b 1851, Copperhill, TN and died 1909 in Dalton Georgia. W28 and W68 had not been in contact prior to the DNA test results, and suspect that their common ancestor probably lived at least two generations prior to their current genealogical record.
W34 was added to this lineage on 18 November 2005. His oldest ancestor is John WEST, born in Tennessee about 1850 and died in Rutherford County TN about 1875. He married Liddy JONES about 1870. His son John Hamilton WEST, b 1872 in Rutherford Co. TN, married Alice Victoria CHILDERS in Faulkner Co. AR, and died in Pittsburg Co. OK in 1941. These families had not been in contact before the DNA test, and are using this new information to determine their relationships.
W85 was added to this group on 16 Dec 2005. He matches W68 on 24 of 25 markers. His oldest ancestor is Wilson WEST, b 1824 in Lincoln County, NC, married Nancy Jane JACKSON in Overton Co. TN in 1849 or 1850. Wilson WEST died in Indian Territory, now Murray Co OK, in 1899. Parents of Wilson WEST may be Barnet West and Barbara Rumfelt, but that is only speculation at this time.

Ive been told these are all my relavtes but cant find the James B West that links them. Having a really hard time. getting ready to go on Vacation but will try to be back to give you that info as soon as I can. will be gone for a month. Going to NC to do Some genealogy. Cementary hunting!

I find your query interesting because in my line of West it is believed that we descend from a John West who was the son of Co. John West & CockaCoeskie (Queen of the Pamunkey Indian by English standards) & she was the daughter of Chief Opechanough who was a brother to Powhattan (the cheif of the Powhatton tribe & father of Pocahontas). John West the Indian married Elizabeth Rose & had 4 children that I know of. It is a long shot but considering the names it might be worth research.
The four children I have listed for John West the Indian & Elizabeth Rose are (1) Thomas West b. NC d. 1800 Bertie Co. NC (2) Robert West (3) Benjamin West (4) Richard West. Hope this helps Let me know if this is your line would love to exchange info. Do you have documentation on John West the Indian. There is controversy over who his father was.
Thanks
Beverly
Regarding the heritage of John West Indian: at this time, I have only what is recorded in the book, "Narratives of the Insurrections": that John, the son of CockaCoeski, Queen of the Pamunkey, was "reputed to be the son of an English colonel, probably Col. John West."

What I have on Thomas West is b. NC d. 1800 Bertie Co NC m. Sarah ? in NC children (1)John Sr b. April 22 1762 Va or NC d. Jan 31, 1836 Talbot Co Ga (2) Penelope West Benton b. unknown Gates Co NC d. unknown m. Jesse Benton Nov 7, 1779, (3) Sarah West Bond b. Gates Co NC d. unknown m. James Bond Dec 15, 1795 Gates Co NC. I am a direct descendant of John Sr the first child & He is where my verification starts.
Have you seen the treaty that was signed by John West the Indian & his mother?
