VAN WAGENEN
The Van Wagenens were among the early settlers of Rensselaerwyck. Aert Jacobsz (Van Wagenen) lived there in 1648 having arrived from the Netherlands. In 1661 the family settled in Ulster County. Some direct descendants of Aert still live in Ulster and other parts of New York State. I am a direct descendant.

HARRISON
The Harrison family settled in Rensselaer & Columbia Counties . Daniel Newton Harrison was born in Stephentown, Rensselaer Co. 1 June 1819. His widow, Thursey G. Butterfield b in New Hampshire, and 2 sons went to Hancock, Mass. sometime after 1860. From there one son went to Saratoga Co. and Thursey and her other son to Kansas. The Saratoga line eventually settled in the Bronx. These files contain the descendants of Samuel B. Butterfield and Daniel N. Harrison. A seperate file contains the descendants of Jared Harrison (1782 CT-8 Feb 1839 Stephentown), the father of Avery Randolph Harrison (b Conn d New Lebanon) and who we believe is the father of Daniel N. and another brother William H. The name of a fourth son of Jared is unknown. Other possible relationships are to Noah Harrison and Abraham Harrison of New Lebanon, NY who were born in Connecticut. We welcome any additons to these files.

HEFFERNAN
Cornelius J. Heffernan was born in 1856 in New York City. His father, Cornelius F., was born in Ireland, immigrating to the United States some time between 1851 and 1856. Cornelius F. served in the Civil War, enlisting in October 1861. He was a POW, taken prisoner at the Battle of Williamburg, 5 May 1862, and taken to Libby Prison. He died at Soldier's Retreat on Wards Island, NYC, 9 May 1871 at the age of 41, leaving his young son Cornelius J. an orphan as his wife had died in December of 1869. After his mother's death, young Cornelius was taken in by his cousin Eliza Clinton and her husband Christopher, where he lived until he married Jane Kelly in 1882.
