Obituary August 06, 1931 In Memorium
I have fought a good fight, I have kept the faith, I have finished my course. These words so fitly spoken at the funeral service of Mrs. Drew Sims on Saturday afternoon typical of the life of this good woman whose days were long in the land. God having allowed to live seventy-two years. Years spent in sacrifice for her loved ones in consecrated service for her master. To the stranger within her midst, to her friends and to all humanity she was truly a mother in Israel. Very early in life Alabama Buford Singleton, reared in Scott County, Became the wife of Drew Sims. The splendid couple reared a large family. Nine reaching maturity, five of whom are still living. Early in girlhood, Mrs. Sims united with the Baptist Church, remaining faithful and letting her light shine among men: at eleven o'clock Friday night July 13 the candle that had burned so long went out and this beloved woman " crossed over the river ". Funeral services were held at the Baptist Church Saturday afternoon conducted by her pastor, Rev. W. C. Howard, assisted by Rev. J. W. Thompson of Port Gibson. Interment taking place at Liberty Cemetery, There by the side of her husband, the late Drew Sims who died seven years ago. We laid her to rest. Here beneath a Pell of flowers we left her with her God not dead for ~ She lives in glory, ~ Like nights gems set round the silver moon ~ She lives in glory ~ like the sun amid the blue of June ~ A Friend."
