David Adam Sr. Singleton (b. October 11, 1793, d. October 17, 1863)
David Adam Sr. Singleton (son of William Jr. Singleton and Elizabeth ?) was born October 11, 1793 in Beaufort County, North Carolina, and died October 17, 1863 in Beaufort County, North Carolina. He married Mary "Polly" Cherry on June 30, 1817 in Beaufort County, North Carolina, daughter of John Cherry and Catherine.
Notes for David Adam Sr. Singleton: Will of David Singleton: In the name of God Amen. I David Singleton of County of Beautort and State of North Carolina of sound and perfect mind and memory blest be God do this 10th day of June 1861 make this my last will and testament in the manner following: I lend unto my beloved wife Polly Singleton the land now mentioned in the run of the swamp at the mouth of the pine log branch thence with said branch to Gum standing in John Floyds first patent line thence with the patent line to Henry Wollards corner thence with the Wollard line to Maple stump in the Miron Run of the swamp thence down said run to the first station and also the half of my property after my just debts is paid and the legiss hereafter named is handed out to my Executers during her lifetime or widowhood.
Item. I give unto my son Wm D. Singleton a certain peace of parcel of land lying in the County of Beaufort in State aforesaid, beginning at a corner pine North East of old school house an about 15 feet from the main road in John Floys second patent line thence with said patent line at E.G. Hodges corner thence with a line marked trees to the main road at the squirrel trail branch thence north with the road to the dividing line betwixt John Swanner and Jefse Swanner thence along a line of marked trees to Asa Jackson corner thence to John Hodges corner then with said Hodges line to the Mirey branch thence up said branch to a Maple stump with pointers around it then a strait course with the old line to the beginning.
Item. I given unto my son John C. Singleton a certain pease or parsel of land beginning ay a Sweet Gum in the line of John Floyds first patent line also it stands in the Pine log branch thence down the center of said branch to a dam said across said branch thence with the old land that James W. Singleton cleared to the west of Asa Singleton cleared land thence a strait course north west direction to a marked Cypress at a corner standing at the landing of the J. W. Singleton fish hold thence down the main Run to John Hodges land thence my new patinn line of marked trees to the mouth of the Miry branch thence up the center of said branch to Wm.D. Singleton corner a Maple stump with pointers around it thence with said Wm. D. Singleton corner. A Maple Stump with pointers around it thence with said Wm D. Singleton line to the main Road thence with the road to John Floyds first patent line then to the beginning. Item. I give unto my son Asa Y. Singleton a certain pease or parcel of land beginning at Henry R. Wollards corner to John Floyds first patent line thence running with the Wollards line to a Maple Stump Standing at the main Run of the swamp thence down the mane run of the swamp to the mouth of the Pine long branch then up the center of said branch a Gum Standing in John Floyds patenn line thence with the patenn line to the beginning.
Item. I give unto my son Lamuel P. Singleton twenty- five cents it being his part of my Estate owing to my paying so much security money for him I do not think it is right to give him an equal shear with the rest.
Item. I give unto my son David A. Singleton twenty-five cents it being his part of my estate owing to my paying so much security for him. I do not think it is right to give him an equal shear with the rest.
Item. I give unto my Daughter Elizabeth Roberson one cow and calf & ten dollars worth of cateel to be delivered to her shortly after my death by my executors.
Item. I give unto my Daughter McKell one father bed and furniture to be delivered to her shortly after my death by the Executor.
Item. I give unto my Daughter Mary Ann Singleton one feather bed and furniture and one cow and calf and ten dollars worth of cattle to be delivered to shortly after my death by my Executors.
Item. I give unto my Daughter Lydia Wollard one feather bed and furniture and one cow and calf and ten dollars worth of cattle to be delivered to her shortly after my death by my Executors.
Item I give unto my Daughter L. Penny twenty-five cents to be delivered by my executors when called for.
Item. I give unto my Daughter Sophia Jane Singleton one feather bed & furniture and one cow and calf and ten dollars worth of cattle to be delivered to her after my death by my Executors.
Item. I give unto my Daughter Julia F. Cherry one feather bed and furniture to be delivered unto her shortly after my death by my Executor.
Executors. All of those Feather beds and furniture are to be valued by my Executors and made equal in other property or money.
Item. I give my Grand Sin D.B. Mckeel a certain pease or parsel of land if he stays with me until he is twenty one years old or to the day of my death if not it is to be sold and go in with my other estate My Executors is to attend to the land til he is 21 years old and then deliver it to him said land is buted and bounded as follows: beginning on the main Road at Squirrel tree branch running with the road to the dividing line between John Swanner and Jefse Swanner,then with a line of marked trees to Asa Jacksons corner then with said Jacksons line to a Gum at the Squirrel tree Branch then up the center of said branch with Edwin G. Hodges line to the beginning.
Item. I give the balance of my property land to my two Daughters Mary Ann Singleton and Sophia Jane Singleton said is butted and bounded as follows beginning at a Pine the third corner of John Floyds first patent then with the patenn lone to a Sweet Gum then with Herny R. Wollards line to a light wood Stump standing in the line of John Floyds second patten then with the patent line to Henry Hodges line then with said Hodges line to a new patent line that Asa Hardisons survey made then with that line to the beginning containing 125 acres more or less.
Item. I give my Dutch Guns (?) to my 3 sons Wm. D. Singleton, J.C. Singleton and A.Y. Singleton to be used among them as they may think proper forever. The balance of my estate is to be sold after the death of my beloved Wife Polly Singleton an equally divided among my six Daughters Elizabeth Roberson, Mancy McKeel, Mary Ann Singleton, Lydia Wollard, Sophia Singleton, Juleus Cherry.
I herby make an ordain my three Sons William D., John C. and Asa Singleton Executors of my last will and Testament whereof I have here unto set my hand and Seal the day and date ? Ritten. Signed Sealed in exactly in presence of us . David Singleton (Seal) Edwin G. Hodges, James M. Walker, A paper righting purporting to be the last will and testament of David Singleton was proved in open court by E.G. Hodges one of the subscribing witness thereto be the last will & testament of said David Singleton. Whereupon it is ordered by the court that the said last will & testament be recorded and at the same time Wm D. Singleton & John C.
