Notes for Edward Beard: The History of The Beard Family
Edward Beard with wife Mary and two small sons left Hagerstown, Maryland and arrived in Hancock County to start farming and continue to raise a family. Lewis, the oldest, of the boys was kicked by a horse and permanently injured. In later years, father Edward was killed by a runaway team and wagon in front of the home place. It had been decided earlier is Henry would take care of Lewis the farm would belong to him, all 160 acres of it. It was so done. Around 1900 the north 80 acres was added and son William and wife Orpha farmed it from 1902 till 1929 when it was sold to settle the estate, the home place going to Charles and the north 80 acres to Mary Etta.
