| The Hart Family are British resident, with a few relations in the US and also in Australia. The Harts come from Morley in Yorkshire. My mother was of the Oughtibridge family, which being a fairly rare name, is better traced. We have the line back by direct Male descent, to Richard 'Outerbridge', birth unknown who died in 1585 in Hatfield, England. My wife Patricia, was born a Hunt, and on her mother's side, the Griffiths and Law families are also well traced, even as far back as King Edward I of England. I am having some success tracing back my paternal Hart line further. More will be added as I discover more. My Grandfather, Thomas Henry (born 1887), came from Batley in Yorkshire, but his father Llewellyn John (born 1868) was originally from Stroud in Gloucester. Family memory says that his father, Thomas (born 1844), "was sent from the midlands to manage a mill in Batley, and came with his family". The facts are more likely that he came north to find work. Certainly Llewellyn and one elder son (Henry) were born in Gloucester and the rest of the children who came after were born in Batley. (Dec 2003) I have located Thomas's birth certificate, but am having problems going further back, as the compulsory registration of births didn't start until 1837 in England, and the next generation (and even an elder brother Llewellyn, born 1836) come before this time. However, Thomas's father I do know was also called Thomas, his wife was Mary Lamb, and their wedding was in King's Stanley near Stroud, on 20 June 1836, and elder brother Llewellyn's baptism was on christmas day the same year. (Nov 2004) I have had some more success. Thanks to the wonderful resources of the LDS websites (Church of Latter Day Saints) I believe I have tracked down about another century of ancestors. Kingswood in the middle of Gloucestershire seems to be the place of origin for Harts. The Thomas born 1844 was son of Thomas born 1811 in Kingswood. His dad is William Hart born 1788 Kingswood, son of Charles Hart born 1765 Kingswood, and his father is again a William, born about 1720 again in Kingswood. |
