WILLIAM9 BOWEN (SAMUEL8, THOMAS7, OBEDIAH6, RICHARD5, JAMES4, MATHIAS3, JAMES2, OWEN1) was born December 17, 1731 in Warren, Bristol County, Rhode Island, and died 1813 in Northbridge, Worcester County, Massachusetts. He married (1) ANNA JENNINGS May 17, 1754 in UXbridge or Warren. He married (2) MARY THAYER December 15, 1785 in Northbridge, Worcester County, Massachusetts.

In 1776 William Bowen, who was a carpenter by trade, served as ensign of the Rangers from Smithfield, Rhode Island. W.R.H.

Information on Smithfield, Rhode Island:
Central Falls, city, Providence county, Rhode Island, U.S.; it forms part of the lower Blackstone Valley community, which includes the city of Pawtucket and the towns of Cumberland and Lincoln. Central Falls was originally a part of Smithfield, when that town was set apart from Providence (1730). It was included within Lincoln when the territory was again divided in 1871 and was known as Chocolate Mill (a man named Wheat had begun manufacturing chocolate there). It was incorporated as a separate city in 1895 and named for its location between Valley Falls and Pawtucket Falls.

Central Falls has an area of 1.27 square miles (3.29 square km) and claims to be the nation's smallest city. Its chief manufactures are glass products (including tubes for incandescent lamps and glass fibres), textiles and clothing, and wire covering for machinery. Pop. (1992 est.) 17,663.

IAW Bowen genealogy, William & Anna had 11 children which included 2 who were named Anna, one died in infancy and the other married a J. H. Olin. Names of the other children were Lemuel, John, William, Thomas, Samuel, Jennings, Sarah, Remember and Isaac.

There was an intent to marry filed on January 9, 1786 by William in Northbridge. Thayer, Widow Mary of Mendon Pub. December 15, 1785. His second wife, Mary Thayer, died 1813. His children were all with Anne Jennings. WRH
