Seated in the Auburn touring car is Jonas Hawkins, standing behind is his grand-daughter Pauline L. Henderson, at his side, his wife Louisa, and in the rear seat are daughter Martha Berniece, grand-daughter Thelma Jean Pratt, and daughter Koral May. Stancing in front are twin daughters Marjorie Lorraine, and Mary Lois. The license plate on the Auburn is for 1914, and they are parked on the south side of the courthouse on Madison Street in Tipton, Indiana. This "saddleback" log home of Amos and Ann (Milhous) Hawkins was built c 1825, and is now located in the Caeser Creek Pioneer Village, Warren County, OH. It is reminiscent of the finer log homes of the Quakers of Cane Creek, SC where Amos & Ann migrated from in 1805. Amos was considered a master craftsman. Jonas came to Tipton County, Indiana in 1875. He became one of the largest landholders in Liberty Township, Tipton County. In a depression, about 1924, a bank that he was president of failed. Jonas, not legally liable, mortgaged his lands and refunded his depositors 100 per cent. Jonas died in 1940 at age 83. - #02 Rear - Log Home of Amos Hawkins, c1825. (94 KB)

Harry was the fourth child and the second son of Jonas & Louisa. The land he inherited was mortgaged. Harry was an innovator. He pushed for rural electrification, for telephones, and he was a vice-chairman for the County Drainage Commission. Harry died of a heart attack in 1950 at age 61. His obituary described him as a prominent farmer and president of the Farmer's Mutual Insurance Company. - #03 Interior - Log Home of Amos Hawkins, c 1825. (82 KB)

Harold was the second child and son of Harry & Edna. He was the first in his line to graduate from college (Purdue, Mechanical Engineering, 1933), and the first to serve in the armed forces (WW II, US Army, Captain). He was a brilliant and disciplened individual. He was responsible in developement of the station seeking radio, the low-level terrain clearance radar, and early "smart" seeking weapons. The bell tower on the west end of All Saints in Norton-Bavant, Wiltshire, England. The tower is part of the original church, the nave is a replacement. There is a list of vicars and rectors displayed that dates to 1306. Jeffery Hawkins and Dorothy Mattock were married here in 1662. Photo by Gene P.
