      250. Laban Suggs, born January 19, 1788 in York Co., SC; died August 21, 1836 in York Co., SC. He was the son of 500. George Suggs and 501. Mary Katherine Sanders. He married 251. Jane Hood 1806 in York Co., SC.

      251. Jane Hood, born 1790; died 1842 in York Co., SC. She was the daughter of 502. John Hood and 503. Mary Wallace.

Notes for Laban Suggs:
Laban married at the age of 18 to Jane Hood, age 16. They bought & lived on a parcel of land five miles from Yorkville, South Carolina, where they were successful farmers. Laban & Jane had 14 children, of whom twelve lived to adulthood. Laban was an elder at Bethel Presbyterian Church & is buried in the church's cemetery.

WILL OF LABAN SUGGS:
"Will of Laban Suggs State of South Carolina In the name of God Amen
I Laban Suggs of the District of York and State of South Carolina, being Sick and low in health but of sound and disposing mind Memory and understanding Considering the certainty of Death and the uncertainty of the time thereof and being desirous to Settle my worldly affairs; and be prepared to leave this abode when it shall please God to call me thence; Do make and publish this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following. First and principally I commit my Soul into the hands of Almighty God, and my body to the Earth, to be decently interred I divide and bequeath as follows In the first place all my Debts and funeral Expenses to be paid by my Executors here after named. Item I give and Divide unto George W. Suggs; my eldest Son a certain tract of Land Lying on the Waters of Allisons Creek, which he has had in possession; Containing by estimation beginning at Hicky on Hemphills line; and running with the Lincoln Road to the cross fence between my field and his; thence a Straight line to a Maple in my old field near the head of a branch. Then down said branch to my line and from thence to the beginning to him the said George W. Suggs, his heirs and assigns Item It is my Will and desire, that the balance of my land and farm whereon I now live together with all my possessions both real and personal viz Negroes; Stock of every kind Horses, Household & Kitchen furniture, and everything appertaining or belonging to said farm plantation; remain in the possessions of my Widow and family for the support of said family until my youngest son Josiah Leory arrives at the full age of Twenty one years at which time; I desire that said property both real and personal: Than in possessions of the family: to be equally divided by my executor; by exposing if it: to Sale or otherwise: between my beloved Widow Jane Suggs; if she be living: in manner and form to wit. Item I give and bequeath unto my beloved Wife Jane Suggs the one third part of all said property there: in possession of the family as above named to her and her assigns forever and the balance & residue to be equally divided between all my-- children except my Son Isaac T. Suggs: Viz George W. Suggs, Mary E. Kerr, John W. Suggs, Katharine L. Suggs, Andrew Suggs, Martha Suggs, Green M. Suggs, William G. Suggs, Margaret E. T. Suggs, Laban S. Suggs--Jane C. Suggs and Josiah Leroy Suggs: share and share alike And all property received by any of said Legatees either from myself; Widow or Executor and held by them without a right in fee simple: to be returned to the executor at said Division for distribution that is the value at the time loaned or given Accounted to Said Estate. Item I give and bequeath unto my son Isaac T. Suggs one family Bible at my Decease of the value of Three Dollars. Item it is my desire that my executors give unto each Legatee as they become of age or Marry: One Horse Bridle and Saddle. Bed ect. or any property that Said Executors may deem necessary: with out injuring or discommoding the family to be accounted as above. And lastly I do hereby constitute and appoint my beloved Wife Jane Suggs and my Son George W. Suggs Executor and Executrix of my this my last will and Testament, and hereby authorize and empower them to manage and conduct my affairs to sell and make good right, to any property real or personal that they may deem fit, for the benefit of said family revoking and Annulling all former wills by me heretofore made, ratifying and confirming this and none other to be my last will and Testament in testimony whereof I have hereunto Set my hand and affixed my deal this Eighth Day of August in the year of our Lord one thousand Eight hundred & Thirty Six.

ORDER FOR SALE OF ESTATE - South Carolina, York District
G. W. Suggs the surviving Executor of Laban Suggs having presented to the County Ordinary a petition asking leave to sell all the estate of Said deceased & by his last will and Testament directed to be kept together for the support of the family & so forth. And it appearing proper from the facts set forth in said petition and received from the evidence of highly respectable Individuals that a sale would advantageous to all concerned. It is therefore ordered that G. W. Suggs the Executor sell all the estate of the Said Laban Suggs together with the increase thereof which was directed by the Will & Testament to be kept on the place, & so forth on a Credit of nine months Taking bond & good security for the purchased Money. It is also ordered that the said George W. Suggs before the sale is made do enter into Bond & good security for double the amount of the property to be sold first giving legal notice of said sale & return the (_?_) to the Court by ordinary is (_?_) prescribed by Law. Given under my hand & seal this 16th day of February in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred & forty four & of American Independence the sixty-eighth.

Jane was married at the age of sixteen to Laban Suggs, age eighteen. The couple bought and lived on a parcel of land five miles from Yorkville, South Carolina, where they were successful farmers.
She was co-Executor, with son George W. Suggs, of the will of her husband.

Jane W. is buried in Bethel Presbyterian Cemetery, Clover, York County, South Carolina. Her tombstone indicates that she was 52 years old at time of death.

In 1838, soon after their marriage, Isaac and his wife moved to Mississippi. They remained there until 1866, when they moved to Texas, settling in Mount Pleasant. While in Mississippi, Isaac was a post surgeon and had charge of the hospital at Tupelo, Mississippi. He died at the age of 74.
